Robert, you may want to check your dimensions.
If your block is a standard 138 it would be 3 1/16" bore. Going to 3 1/8" +.020" would be .080" OS.
You could use your 3 1/16" .020" i.e. just source some ring sets. This will mean you wont have to dramatically overbore your engine.

Re: pistons 138 grey motor j block
G'day Tim.
I get them supplied by HM engines in Melbourne as a package when I get my machining work done on blocks. My contact is Albert Cachia in the machine shop there. He deals through Nassons spare parts next door.
I get my cam bearings and pistons via Auto Surplus in Mitcham dependant on price (JP pistons can be expensive for anything under .060" OS).

I measured the piston, the donk was a gem rebuild with std stamped on the repco pistons,3 1/8 are there size.I bought this set that,re 3 1/16 plus 10 over because I,d had the head off and assumed the same logic, that was a triple no no anyway in my own experience Auto Surplus in Mitcham have served me well over the years though there price recently quoted close to $700 with gst.Repco quoted just under $400 though they,re on back order, they said about a month to supply. They,re selling on ebay for 350,don,t know how good they are though. Thanks for your imput,Robert.

No dramas Robert. I took your first post as your engine being standard as you wrote. I get it now.

Thanks Craig,I,m living up in East Gippsland,I was until late last year getting my machine work done by a bloke in Maffra but due to a burgulry he has decided to close his doors so for anyone interested will be having an auction on th 10 th may, starts 10 o,clock on johnston st next to the CFA.My next question is who best to go to now?The HeadShed in Morwell I,m told, they did up the head, all in all I,m happy with it apart from being right at the egde of the limit of shaving marks.Good compression though, thats partly exacerbated the bottom end failure.

G'day Robert, is that the Engineering place?
There's a guy at Glenmaggie that does head work, I've just started using him. I post the details when I get home.

Nasons sell 3 and 1/8th +30, 40 and 60. People say you can't buy direct but I have had no issues. I think it was $290 a set of pistons, rings and pins.
