A bit more work today. Got into the rear floor section for a peak for rust. None found but there's a shit load of dirt and dust.
Stripped the rear springs as I need to put in new sheave pads and replace one keeper. Stripped front partially and dropped cross member out. Strange find though - two piece outrigger rubber.....over to the aficionado's on that one. It does have a Holden part number.
So far all good and no rust - bloody happy with that. Only drama I have is it rains dirt when you hit it with a hammer. I don't think this car has seen bitumen for 50 odd years! I can live with the dirt though, beats cancer hands down.

Can't help you with the outrigger rubber, Craig - no idea.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't take one jot of notice of the one I pulled out of mine when I changed over from the original cross member to the HR one.

That body is simply superb! What a find. One legacy of perhaps hard times for people on the land, and all the time - this dear old girl was rolling around laughing at the harsh conditions. Might explain why there weren't any fish or yabbies in the engine.

In safe hands now - this is one car which people will talk about when there are ever so few left.

i've come across heaps of those 2 piece outrigger rubbers my guess is they are original and any with 1 piece have been replaced at some time (just a guess though) as for springs should have just taken them to a spring place i thought about pulling some apart cleaning them and replacing the sliders and thought i wouldn't mind getting then reset lower rang a spring joint $90 the pair, dropped off a pair of old manky looking springs picked up shiny black with new center pins new sliders etc 3" reset bargain
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Thanks Rosco. Will have to check the part number in the catalogue.
Still not holding my breath with the rust. Not sure what I'll find in the cab, fingers crossed though as it looks good underneath...but

Thanks Mick, funny I've never seen them before at all. Just goes to show.
Re the springs that's a really good price. I'm not bothering with paint as yet. I'm juts going flat biscuit to get all the mechanicals done for rego so I can get it to Renmark next year.

Apparently my arse end need work too.

hard to tell by that pic if the rear end is just loose or has other problems :shock: :lol:

Revenge, Craig - go get some revenge shots.... but, be warned - "a woman scorned"....

Totally off topic, well - almost. A few years back, on one of my mountain bike trips on the local Rail Trail up to Warburton - I was with a friend having trouble pushing his along into the headwind.

We passed a very well fitted out and appointed couple riding horses who were of very large "proportions".
We stopped and turned around when we got out of earshot to look at the combinations from the rear.... and both of us went into fits of laughter (which Belinda's pic of you had intended for purpose).

What we saw of the two "fitted out" riders was of equal proportions to the mounts they were on... well, almost... wish I'd had Belinda's camera.... we further went on to question whether it would be the horses turn to ride on top on the way back.
Honestly, I really felt for those two horses - these were very big people. Is there a limit on how large a person can be on the back of a horse?... I guess the knights in all their armour of years long gone would suggest not.

I'll be putting the wheels back on my old bus again shortly - nearly time for it to come out and find out what I've now forgotten I wanted to do to it after HB... might be time for a club run - have to check the site/newsletter.

Yes Rosco, I think the words are "Hell have no fury like..........." Scary enough reading that so I think not with the revenge lol
I too have questioned the equal rights of man versus horse when it comes to the size challenged. You'd think they'd get larger horses. At least I know now why some horses have curved spines! :wtf:

Hi Tony, yep its well under way. Its been challenging trying to keep myself under control. The deadline for Renmark will come quickly so its only what I can do in that time frame (I say that now :roll: )

Great looking ute Craig - amazingly straight and clean - look forward to following your work as I do the same with mine.
One question - I found the spare in mine was a mustard colour with a Goodyear tyre on it - never been on the road - were they standard issue? It looks like the wheel have never been fitted as the centres of the holes were still painted.

G'day FJWally, I'm not sure what tyres would have been fitted at the factory. Maybe some of the history buffs might be able to help with that. I know Olympic Air Rides were a standard fit for a long while but there may have been other brands over the years.
Things have slowed up on mine but hopefully in the next couple of months I can get cracking for Renmark.
Yours is a gem...good pick up! Is yours Seagull Grey also?

Mine is Montana Grey - getting the front end pulled out and re-built next week and then should be ok for rego so I can get it home and tinker with all the other bits.
As usual the rubbers all over are pretty much stuffed apart from the windscreens so need to decide if I re-paint or just tidy up and re-rubber - the more you look at them the more fault you find but like you the smile always returns when I see there is next to no rust to worry about.
