Blown Head Gasket!

Post by surfcityslicker »

Howdy
Had a lovely weekend - clouds of white smoke and milky residue under the oil filler cap - we all know what that means!
I'd like some advice please if anyone could. I am capable of stripping the engine down & putting in the gaskets etc. It is a good opportunity to respray the engine grey again & repaint the manifolds - i always look on the bright side.

Once its all in pieces I am going to put it straight back together again - I want it back on the road ASAP. Is the reassembly something that requires more than an average knowledge - or should i tow it down to my local mechanic to do? I have a mate who's an ex mechanic who can help with reassembly - but i don't want to stretch the friendship. I also am pretty keen on learning some new things - this is one way to find out!

Any tips - or links to previous related posts would be ace - thanks!

Its pretty straight forward if you know ow what you are doing. I'd be getting your mate to let you do it at his workshop with him telling you what to do.

Be sure to pull the side plate off first and check the frostplugs first.

Like the guys said check small welshplugs behind side plate before you pull apart any further. you could be lucky.

Took it to the local mechanic - head gasket gone so will get the head reconditioned and am going to repaint the motor at the same time.
Thems the breaks! Should be like new after that.
