Machinist/turner wanted... anyone handy with a lathe?

Ladies and Gents,

I need to make a relief valve for the Type 65 Norman supercharger in my recent posts. To do this, I need two aluminium pieces machined up - a triangular one, and a disc:



Whilst I can cut plate, I can't turn/mill the 1.35" "indents" in each piece (the indents are used to locate a grey motor valve spring). Drilling is not an option as the point of the drill bit would push too far into the ally.

I'm looking for someone with a lathe/mill who is willing to make these up from aluminium. Happy to pay for both time and materials. For now I only need one, but would be willing to purchase up to eight (eight discs, eight triangles). I can probably get this done through one of the local machine shops, but would prefer to keep it on the forum if I can.

Andrew there is a guy I use who does machining in his backyard on merrylands rd. He is making manifolds etc and machining blower stuff all the time. He did some machining for my race engine in my boat. Ill try and find his number.

If you cut the plates out and stick em in a bag to Tassie I can machine them and post back for a smile Harv.

It looks like Pete Mallaby (the bloke who did the manifold) will be able to make the two types of plates for me. He is checking and confirming. If it falls through, I'll give you a yell.

Gents,

I need some lathe help again please - this time a little urgent.

The Norman idler pulley used to run on the inside of the belt (it once ran on a Toyota). Now that it's on a grey, it needed to be changed to run on the outside of the belt. I swapped the vee-pulley for a flat pulley. The new pulley has a different bearing size and no longer fits the pulley spindle. Of course, the pulley is metric and the spindle is imperial so I can't just find a different bearing.

The help I need please is to take the existing spindle (as shown below), and work the 0.875" diameter bearing surface (turn it down) to 17mm diameter (or a poofteenth under to interference fit the 17mm bearing). The spindle is only small (>2.5"), and the bearing surface is also small (0.5" wide).


I tried a local machinist, unfortunately he has suffered a hernia and cannot work until January. The bigger local machine shops want $100 just to walk in the door . I'm hoping to turn this one around fairly sharply and get the Norman fired up and back to it's owner before mid-December.

Anyone with a lathe that can lend a hand please?
