Auto Steering Column
Auto Steering Column
I have just found out that I need an Auto Steering Column for my conversion. I would really like a complete unit minus the steering box. Would be stoked to find one in Victoria to save courier costs, but if you have one that you want to part with, let me know

Re: Auto Steering Column
Hey FeeBee,
I used a HR auto column in my EK wagon with a HR frontend. With little or no fuss installing it.
There's a HR auto column on gumtree In Victoria at the moment
Cheers Nick

Re: Auto Steering Column
Hi all,
I have located one, thanks everyone that looked. have also picked up a WB column aswell.
Yes I was told I could have used the HR one, but I think the diameter of the honey pot/coffee pot, (whatever its technical name is) would be different and wouldn't match the FB wheel.
No Adrian, haven't moved, Retro columns are in Victoria so I though I could save a bit on postage.
I have decided to go with Alien Retro columns, as all my searches were coming up with American replacements and I really like the idea of the auto still being on the tree and not on the floor. It will look exactly as it should and you won't even know its been modified. I will still have to sort out the linkages for the 4 speed, but in the end it shouldn't take away too much from the originality look of the dash.
Price is up there, but the money I would spend on the shifter setup on the floor I see as putting it into the column setup instead.
I did speak to a guy with a ute at Toowoomba All Holden day one year, and he said he used parts from this and that, and eventually got it to work, but it was a lot of thinking.
Thanks again.

Re: Auto Steering Column
Hey FeeBee,
Just for info. FB/EK honey pot will fit a HR column, with a slight modification for the upper bearing screw holes.
The retro columns that George builds up are a really good product. ( I bought one for my FB van project ).A bit pricey as you say, but much better looking then an after market, mass produced American/Chinese version.
Good luck with the build. What sort of frontend are you going to use?
Cheers Nick

Re: Auto Steering Column
Cheers for that tip Nick. I guess this being my first car that I am doing a full rebuild, I haven't tinkered with a lot of old holdens, so its good to learn from everyone what will and wont work.
I am going to be running a UC torana front end. Have read the details on this forum, looked at the photos, and have come up with the game plan to make it happen.

I think it does. The one George used for my conversion was a HJ column and it fits an FB/EK honeypot
