what is the stock tyre size for an EK

Post by rickbantam »

Hi all, as the subject suggests I'm after the proper size tyre for my EK which is still running 13' rims, I've been told the current tyres are not suitable for the car and they are 185/70R13 is this correct

Thanks again guys

Rick , I think you can get a 185/80/13 which is about the closest you can get in a radial ???? The original rags were 6.50/13 which are still available as a whitewall but you need pretty deep pockets to buy a set.

What does he say is wrong with the 185/70/13's ?? Theres plenty of people who run them , your speedo will be a bit out but at least it will read fast not slow ......
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Blacky,

the guy said it was more suitable for a hairdressers car!! I guess that the tyres appear to be too small for the old girl, as I reckon the ute has really been lowered too much, so I'll stay with them as there is plenty of tread left. I don't mind it being low but with two people inside its bottoming out on the speed bumps at Bunnings!!!

The 185/80/13 radials I have seem to be a weeny bit taller than the originals if anything, but they ride really well.

I had an EK 215 a few years back with 14" rims and 185/70/14 tyres. For my 2c worth, that's probably ideal if you're not worried too much about originality.

MeFB thanks mate, might get the suspension done then have a look at the taller tyres, the car is reasonably stock but a little bit of individuallity on the bus wouldn't be that bad thanks again for the response

Sounds like you've been talking to a Gino that only likes cars with 20" wheels "foolly sic"

I nice lowered ute with stock wheels looks great to me  .

Hi All,

I have a similiar query and problem, just had my EK Ute over the pits to get licenced in WA and they have told me the tyres are to lower profile, the car is running 14 inch rims with 195 x 60 x 14's - 60 being the profile, what would be the correct profile to be running to keep the speedo legit cause im guessing that is the issue, not sure of diff ratios or anything, guessing its the original diff. Has brand new radials so im a bit reluctant to replace.

Cheers,
