GMH Colour Identification Samples 1960 to 1962
G’day everyone,
Thanks to a bit of prodding by ipg, ek61 and mephious (see http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=929)I thought it was about time to have a go at putting a sample colour chart together.
I was hoping that someone may have had an original colour chart that could have been scanned but nothing has surfaced. If you do have one please let me know.
Can people please email (click on the email button at the botton of this post) me a picture/s of an FB-EK that has the colours that are missing. The picture must be in focus. More than one picture would be good so I can try and get the best result.
Remember due to faded paint, picture quality, degree of sunlight/cloud, effects of the computer and computer screen etc the final sample colour chart will not be an exact representation of the colour. What it will be is a rough guide/general overview to what the colour looks like.
Looking forward to getting some pics to fill in the many blanks...
regards
Stewart

Hi Ray,
OK thanks for getting back. You mean to say you guys can't also see the button that says "Click here for FB EK NOS and NASCO accessories"?
Might be something to do with your profile setting? I'm no expert on phpBB so will look into it...

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the pics. Colleen Green and Sherwood Green have now been added to the chart. So has Twighlight Turquoise - thanks Ray. Have just realised that some of the 1960 colours may be on EKs.... so if you have an EK with a 1960 colour thats missing I'd like to hear from you...
The pics below were taken by the official photographer organised by the Vic Club at Albury Nationals....
I can't do this by myself- who knows the colour names...SunnyTim, anyone...

Great idea and progress Stewart,
just a thought to save you some work asking members what colour this car is for example.
Would it be possible to put an area in each members profile that they could post the colour of there car ( written statement ) and this would then match there avatar. Possibly saving some time ?
Then again, this is probably going to create more work for someone as well.
Maybe i'll shut up.

And I stated I wouldn't post again........... maybe I'm relenting?
Congratulations Stewart - you are going great with this - everyone is going to benefit, hopefully many will assist.
Third pic down on your Nov 15 post is I believe "Barney"
I am fairly sure they chose Twilight Turquoise for him.
I'll also email a pic of mine - it's Tartan Turquoise ala 1961 EK.
Your number is correct - I believe your chip may be a little too deep.
With respect to using colours of resprayed vehicles greatly depends on how accurately the paint was made up.
I remember in 1974 getting some mixed up by the people who originally sold the car and it was just a shade out - they stated then that the base material had been changed by Dulux - so I would expect anything resprayed unless colour matched exactly to some original cut sample would possibly be different.
Original colours which have been cut recently from locations which have been concealed (boot interior etc) will probably give the closest match.
For all intents and purposes, I feel what you are achieving is for a general overview? and I believe you are going great with it.
Keep going, hope others will help you.
frats,
Rosco

Hi Ian/Rosco,
Thanks for the support.
Ian - good idea but I'll leave it as is. By the way what colour is your Van?
Rosco - Yes email me the Tartan Turquoise.
Yes you are correct - all I'm trying to achieve is a general overview of colours - just to give people a general ball park of what the colour looks like.
I have noticed that some of the colours look completely different between the monitor I use at work and the monitor I use at home plus with all the other variations of sunlight, shade, resprays etc the colour chip may not look anything like the real colour
I have started to think that maybe it would have been better to use an image of an FB EK rather than a colour chip...anyways I'm going to press on and with the assistance of the cumulative knowledge on this Forum we just might get a colour chart for our FB EKs...
regards
Stewart
