Steel Camshaft ( Timing ) Gear

Post by vmx-mxr »

This topic probably mentioned somewhere but might as well get the latest info anyway.

Anyone know the best sources for steel timing gears for the grey?

Hopefully someone will know...........

That's the place we in the Vic club buy them from Dave. I've fitted quite a few of them and am very happy with the quality. I previously removed a steel gear (not Master Engineering) from an FC because the cam gear was loose allowing the cam to float backward and forward stuffing a couple of lifters.
People have told me that timing gears are advertised on ebay but i doubt if they are from Master Engineering. I checked ebay recently and although i can't be certain, these maybe fibre gears which in my humble opinion aren't worth a ****** full of cold water.
As for reports of steel gears being noisy, the ones i fitted to Quinnies white beast and Darrens EK weren't noisy at all.
The piece of mind in having steel timing gears far out weighs the cost of the kit, which comprises of cam gear, crank gear, thrust plate and crank seal.
Hope this advise helps.

Hi All

Can someone point in the right direction to buy a steel timing gear? American Autos show nil stock and Master Engineering won't have any for a few months

Thanks Kel

G'day Kel,

Did you call American Autos, or use their website? The website is badly out of date, and does not reflect their actual stock very well.

Another option may be Diecrest Engineering (Corner of Bagshaw Street and Thompsons Road Harcourt Victoria 3453, Telephone (03) 54742321, Facsimile (03) 54742536, Email info@diecrest.com.au) though they generally make them on demand rather than stocking them.

Cheers,
Harv

I'm hoping that Master Engineering still makes the steel timing gears, as my poor old FB has sat in the shed broken since the last Nationals, :crying:
