Sorry mate. Got ahead of myself. Welder came and worked on the panel further back instead. He's hoping to get to the other bit in the next couple of weeks.

just a general update

I haven't done much with the car but i have started moving odds and ends into the garage roof space to give me more work space around the car.

I have also started to learn how to weld from my step dad who is a boiler maker by trade and has 40+ years of experience, so i think i am in good hands.

What i am planning to do in the next few days is:
1. pull out fuel tank and send away to be cleaned, restored and pin holes welded up (still need to find someone in SE Melb to do it)
2. remove old fuel lines and replace with new
3. drill out pin holes in back floor and weld them up
4. cut out front floors and replace with replacement panels
5. weld in new transtunnel
6. Get help from someone to repair the floor section under the front seat on passenger side (as mentioned in previous posts)

I have been stalking everyone elses posts and getting alot of inspiration and knowledge from them so keep up the good work people

Most reputable radiator repair shops can repair fuel tanks, maybe try your local natrad, cheers, Nick.

went into the garage and started to cut out the floor panels only to find the previous owner had done some quick patch jobs. under these patches were even more r st so we couldn't weld in the replacement panels. will have to work out how to fix up the previous work first

We decided to take the fenders off to get better access to the r#$t. Thought it would take half an hour to an hour... 4 hours later im still going. Have the bumper bar,off and only 2 more bolts and the stone tray is out. Hopefully i'll be able to get the fenders off in a couple of days

After long discussions with my dad and brother, we think its best to strip her down completely sandblast and them start again. No steps forward 10 steps back

As painful as it must be, its probably the best way to go. Once its blasted you'll know how much rust you'll have to deal with and there wont be any secrets bubbling up later on.
Hang in there. Yes there will always be steps backwards but just keep it in the back of your mind what your end result will be. Its a hard slog but well worth it in the end. You'll also find plenty of help and encouragement here on the forum.

Deep down i guessed it would come to this, i will start stripping her back in the next few weeks. my next question would be, how much do you take off for the blasters? do I have a rolling shell? take the front subframe off? take everything off including the back suspension, wheels etc??? I dont have a rotisserie anymore...
