Hello from Me! "NEWBIE ALERT"

Post by ontop »

Hey all!
I have been swanning around on this site for a few weeks & signed in last week. :smile22:

I'm not a stranger to owning vintage cars. Started with a few Holden's (H.G,Torana, E.H. etc. Crazy move to the Morris 1000 (splitty's) Morris Ten (1948) & now a small collection of some very special Kombi's. My daily driver is a Splitty dual cab that is primarily used as my work vehicle.

About 2 weeks ago I came across a For Sale sign through my Facebook page. Yup it's an E.K Holden! So here I am! :huhhh: I'm happy with the new project (although i have many projects on the go!)

I will appreciate any help I can get! The car needs work! lovely interior, body fair. Not registered. Been sitting in a barn for the last 12 years. Gave the wagon it's first bath in 12 years only today.

I'm located in Ormond Vic & have a "hobby" panel shop in Moorabbin. I'm looking at doing most the work myself as I have worked on many a car in my time (mostly body work) I shall leave the paint to someone that knows what they are doing.

 At the moment I am needing 2 x 13inch tyres so i can move around the E.K with ease. I do have it on rolling dolly's at present but still would prefer a couple of tyres to make life easier.

So it's a big hello from me to all of you in the FB.EK Holden forum. I'm looking forward to meeting up with some of the members over time. I'm always open to suggestions & input. Always listening to ideas and up for a beer!

OH!! & for those that want to know what I picked up see the following:

Body EK/229M - 10508M
Trim 749-971
Paint 5859892
Top 585240

Currently white in colour. It will be taken back for the new colour. (Grey and darker grey are the original paint numbers)

Welcome Ontop, sounds like a good project to add to those you have already under your belt. Now there is one thing we really like around here and that's pics! So do you have some to share?

Welcome Ontop - you've come to the right place.
I noted by your introduction that you've been around collectables for some time - and have access to all the necessary facilities to create a great result.

As others have stated, you'll get just about everything you need to know from within this forum - and more.. some of us just can't use one word when a paragraph goes begging..

Love the idea of you returning the EK to original grey colour - if you are a purist, there really isn't an option.

We might also suggest you consider a visit and introduction to our Victorian club - meets at the Tower Hotel, Auburn monthly - if you haven't already.
We have a run coming up on Australia Day not too far from you (although, in an EK - no-where is too far....)

Welcome. You will be amazed at the performance difference a big block grey motor over a stock splitty dak dak.
You can line the two up a drag race at fifty ks flat out in a school zone.

All good, Ontop....
You sure look like you've picked yourself a project.... great pix.
Even a wash at this early stage will look like you've done weeks of work on it...

Love the remnants of the barnyard on the rear floor.... some animal was living in there - and now you've taken away their home.... how does that make you feel, Ontop....?
Guess they've probably found something less classic to live in now.... but it must have been fun, whilst it lasted...

Please keep us updated regularly with your thread on this... it's going to be a long and drawn out process - trust us.... we're used to watching these go for years.... but you're a seasoned restorer - and will probably travel quite quickly once you make a start..... the stripping and tagging process begins, I trust..
