Hotrod Collapsible Columns???

Post by DOLLER. »

Hey trendsetters just wondering if anyone has any pics of Ididit or Flaming River type collapsible columns in FBEK's??
My set up will not run exactly in line with the previous column so just wondering how other guys have mounted the column to the dash. Ive got a column drop but it may look a bit dicky. What have others used??

Can you not shorten it so it sits where a stock one does ? If its off to one side its going to look pretty weird - I had lots of trouble getting the steering sorted in the V6 EK and was considering cutting the floor of a VB/VL Commondore out where the column passes through the firewall on them because it brings the bottom universal about 75-100 mm into the cabin which would decrease the angles on the unis . bit of a problem when running rear mounted racks , but they are miles better then a CRS setup ............
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I got the CRS rack, with Torana column. It doesn't sit where the original did either. Had to make a new floor plate, so the bottom is over an inch or so. Rebent the pedals to suit. The top sits where the original did though. Beware the top (under dash) mount - many engineers will want it to be breakaway, not the standard FB/EK u-bolt fixed mount.

Thanks guys. Blackys thats kinda what Ive got but I had to run the steering shaft under the extractors so that kinda determined the angle of the column. Which now doesnt line up with the scalloped out section under the dash! "angryy:
Oh well ill get back to it tonight and try and nut something out. Not many variables easily changed!

Yes - different to the original. Lower and closer to the trans tunnel.
