138 diff centre

Post by Beerhands »

Hey guys,

About to rebuild the grey in the EK wagon and had some questions about the diff centres. Can I put a different ratio diff centre into my stock diff? Is there any tricky issues with doing so and what ratio centre would people recommend. The grey will be warm to hot with the 3 speed crash box on standard wheels.

Cheers,

Alec

How hilly is it where you live ? If its hilly or you are towing , no more than 3:55 , if not , no more than 3:36 IMHO
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Cheers Blacky,

Not too hilly, but will probably look more into the 3.55. What will the main difference be for the 3.36 rather than the 3.55? Finding the centre is the next issue. Will the centre slot straight into the stock diff?

A 3:55 shod go straight in , I put a 3:08 in mine to drive to the nats one year and it was bloody painful in the hilly stuff

Is there any issues with course/narrow spline centres? Just worried about buying one and putting it in to find it doesn't fit

99% of them are coarse spline , just make sure you get a coarse one and you will be right.

If your grey motor is a hottie I would go with the 3.36 no problem.
The only difference between 3.55 and 3.36 is it will be a bit slower off the mark with the 3.36 and lower cruising revs at 100kph.
