Yeah I talked to the owner a while back, he told me it's actually an FB.
He's spending plenty of $$$$ to have it unveiled at Motorex next week.
Was there last year in primer with some suspension, diff and motor installed.
Should be a wicked looking car when finished.

don't worry about spending plenty to have it unveiled at motorex he'de be spending plenty if it wasn't being unveiled there
will definately be a stunner
i have a mate who knows the chop shop owner and apparently these types of cars that they are pretty much specialising in now you won't be getting any change from 100k
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping
Its got me stuffed how people can justify spending 100plus thousand on a project that would be lucky to be worth 30 when they are tired of it.
Each to their own I guess.

He told me he had already paid $100k and it wasn't even painted or interior done yet....

100k Is starting money on projects being built with this level of engineering fabrication and finishing detail.
I have spent many years building show quality cars, with two Motor Ex Elite Contenders in Super Stars, and one of these won the top award in Best of Breed.
To be in the Top Three most cars have had at least 250K plus spent on them..
But there are home built cars out there with over 100K invested in then as drivers.
Yep , 100k is loose change on some of the top end cars, a mate of mine is building a high end show car , last time I went for a look months ago he was at 15000 man hours, and they hadn't started on paint, mechanical overhauling or trim
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Yup, you need pretty deep pockets to play at the elite level. There was a spate of 55 & 57 Chevys being built about ten years ago to compete at the elite level and they were all 250k to 300k budgets. But at least most times your not competibg for a $5 dollar plastic trophy...
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
Since when do any of us make rational decisions when it comes to money and old cars Hell if I was stupidly rich and had money burning in my pockets I'd sooner pay a shop to build an old car to my taste from scratch than just go out and buy Ferrari or something.
that car blacky speaks of is incredible
the more you look at it the more detail you see
its great to see that class of work before any paint or interior is placed on it
building cars well
for me its do the best you can possibly do iv shown my car in quite a few shows even took it all the way to meguires
in sydney
but iv allways had the view
if you like my ute then thanks that's great
but if you don't well hey I built it for me not you
paul
So is cubic dollars the only criterior for building an elite car.
Is it the builder. Can an elite car be built on a budget or is there a check list of unavoidable expensive parts to buy which couldnt be sourced from swap meets or wrecking yard. I think sometimes owners like to spruke about what they spend because it in their mind translates to an ego thing.
I quoted a two doored ek a few months ago.
All the metalwork was done to a high level. It needed finishing and paint.
I quoted 15 to 18 grand. The guy that got the job quoted 35 and got it.
Tops it was two to three weeks work and two grand in materials.
Some people just want to be reamed.

I saw your ute when it was in Sydney and thought it was great.
My comments were in reply to a post on costs.
And where did I make reference to your ute in relation to this post?

The Street Elite class caters to a slightly lesser quality car over all. But has exceptional detail/engineering or innovation in one or two of the judged areas.
What level of finish was the guy wanting for his Two Doored EK??

Just read posts elsewhere on this forum about what some people believe as excessive costs on parts or work they want performed on their cars.
no no paul im very sorry mate
I had no intention of directing my comments to you mate I was just speaking in general of my views on people commenting on guys like myself that have put big money or time into cars
I appoligise if that came out like it was directed at you
regards
paul
