steering column how to remove

trying to get the ute ready to be fitted to a rotiserie.

Taken the steering wheel off, horn ring and such, removed the wiring, undone the bracket holding it to the dash, removed the panel on the floor, undone the bolts holding it onto the frame thought it would have been a matter of unbolting it all and pulling it through under the car but it won't move I must be missing a step or something, the manual is completely useless on the subject.

My brother came to visit while I was pouring over the manual trying to figure out why I couldn't remove it, he got into the engine bay and tried disconnecting the pitman arm with no success and banging around with a hammer all he appears to have done is messed up the utes wheel alignment

Double check:
All the bolts between the steering box and subframe,
Gearshift control tube (one bolt, access from nside car, close to firewall)... don't lose the special stepped washer!
Pitman arm remains on box (splines are bloody tight) but other end (ball) popped out of steering connecting rod.

Box should some up into cabin.

done all of that ok Harv ball is stuck and won't pop out now what?

Put a crowbar under the pitman arm , over the steering link and have someone heavy hang off it . Back the nut off the ball a few turns and spray some WD-40 into thearea under the nut then flog the pizzle out of the end of the pitman arm with a gympie - use heat if it wont move. It will go eventually , probably been there 50 years

highly likely to have been there a long time as everything is caked with old grease, oil and a black crusty unidentified gunk been frantically scrubbing away at it all with a wire brush, might be as simple as finding that nut you referred to Blacky under the gunk.
