Pushrod lengths

Post by ek61 »

Just putting the grey back together turning it over by hand
Looking at the pushrods I could see one starting to bend
So I pulled them all out and there is three rods longer than all the rest they came out of this motor when pulled down
Any one got any idea why this would be?
Just curious I pulled another engine apart and found there were 2 rods longer than the rest
So thought bugger it pulled another motor apart and all Rods were the same size
It's got me buggered

Any ideas??

Mine is a Ej engine will check the length when I finish work tonight .
It's odd but came out of the engine like that

I might have to pull the lifters out and check see if they are all the same depth

I found the same thing when i tried to replace push rods from another motor.
Is appears that the Grey motors in the EJ holdens had shorter pushrod then those in the Earlier models.
The engine in my EK was apparently out of an EJ.
But as to why they are different, could someone have swaped a few over without checking or running the engine ?
