Guard / Subframe Rubber Strips????

Post by EKWagon »

There looks to be a single piece of moulded rubber running all the way around the top edge of the sub-frame to prevent the rubbing of the guard where it bolts on? what does everyone use when rebuilding the front of their cars? if these are still available, I have been unable to find them, do I have to chase down a good used set?

G'day EKwagon,

I'm in the same spot as you. I was planning to see if I could get a rubber profile similar from Spectrum Rubber at Dunheved Sydney.

I'll give Spectrum a call in the next couple of days and let you know how I go.

Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to make a neat hole through rubber for the guard bolts? A drill or punch?

i dont know if this may help, but you can try old tyre tubes, and fabricate something similar, and with a stanley knife make those holes for the bolts. Either that or try some sort of sealant (ie window seal filler).

I had mine remade when the father in law was working at a rubber factory, shame he retired cause it was handy at the time.

Definatley Punch, simplist way find a peice of thin walled tube, and champher the edge on a grinder, or purchase a cheap wad punch set from Supercheap or Repco.

And dont put the rubber on a piece of steel when you punch the holes or the punch will be blunt after the first hole-put a piece of timber in a vice and face it up , then use the END of the timber as a surface to punch against ,makes your punch stay sharp for yonks !!

thanks for the tips John and Blacky.

Just got off the phone to Spectrum. They have a 40mm high U profile that should suit. $11.95 per metre. Product code 241.082

EK Wagon - I'd try Clarke Rubber too - I'm sure they would have something similar. It would then be a matter of punching out the necessary holes as John and Blacky have suggested.
