Door rubber glue

Post by parisian62 »

Hi everyone,

What product are people using for glueing on door rubbers?

I've seen a contact adhesive called Kwik Grip Advanced that dries clear.

Hi Stewart. Do NOT use the glue rubber from Spectrum. it's absolutely useless.

I find Kwik Grip to be quite good.

A quick search on here will find a previous thread where this was discussed. Prism 401(?) I think was what quite a few have used. I can never remember...

Stu,

Highly reccomend Loctite 454.
a) It's a superglue in a decent sized tube (no fiddly small tubes),
b) it's cheaper than the Selleys stuff you buy at Woolies on a per/g basis,
c) it doesn't fog clear plastics as much as normal superglue,
d) it is a gel, so it doesn't stick/tack immediately - you have some time (about 5 seconds) to stuff up the placement and move the rubber a bit.
e) the leftover stuff doesn't go off that quick (I'm still using a tube I bought 2 years ago).

You used to be able to get it from Bunnings, though it's about 2 years since I bought a tube.

Cheers,

Loctite 401 for me.
Tried the 3m black super adhesive that rare parts sent with my rubbers, and charged me $50 for 2 tubes without asking if I wanted it  , was utter crap. Messy and didn't really stick too well on the corners.
So after the first rubber went to the Loctite, then redone the first rubber corners etc with it.

That's the one! Cleanest and easiest to use. No stringing, or residue.

Over the last few years i had spent a lot of time mucking about with rc model planes and cars and have become a bit of a glue freak lol..

Loctite 401 seems to be another Super Glue (CA) of some sort .... it could be ok ... but id be worried if it didn't get spot on the first time it would either rip paint off or chunk a bit of rubber out. CA soaks into to rubber very well so it will make a great bond but it also can make that bit hard and brittle.... there are some rubberised CA's out there any maybe thats what 401 is ... not sure....but all that said ....others have used it with no trouble so its a safe bet too!!

One glue that i have come across in my time is a bit of a wonder glue ... a bit like WD40 is .... where it has many applications and its called "Shoe Goo"
Basically made to glue the rubber soles back onto your shoes but can be used for lots of other things. Its clear and rubbery but sticks well!!

The Yanks love it .... but here in Australia it is maybe not as widely used..... and can also be hard to find.
Some rc model shops will have it under a brand Zap-a-Dap-a-goo.

Gluing rubbers to cars is listed as number 76 in this 101 uses sheet http://www.shoegoo.asia/101-english.htm
It has a tolulene/acetone solvent so some trialage might be in order... If nothing else its a handy glue to have in the toolbox as it will stick nearly anything to anything!

Also if anyone ever needs any CA in bulk for the workshop its hard to beat this place .... Less then $2 for a 50g bottle of CA!! http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... dLock.html .... they also have lots of other handy tools and bits cheap too! .... But be warned this site can be dangerous to the pocket because there are so many cool things cheap!!
