Fitting spats.

Post by John »

I got a set of spats today, they have been sitting around for years and don't come with any fitting bits. Can anyone tell me what I need or post a pic of a fitted spat from inside the guard?

Thanks guys

Sorry John, tried taking some photo's of my freshly fitted ones but not much room up there to shove a camera. They are quite easy to install................according to the person that put mine in, not me

Cheers cal.

I didnt get any bits with mine so really unsure about the fitment.
They obviously need a rubber but apart from that not real sure.

Heres a pic, not even sure if they are genuine or repos.

Look like repops.

Mine are originals (as far as I can tell) and have a lever-and-catch arrangement on the back of the spats at the end that is closest to the rear of the car. You install with the lever facing up, and then swing the lever down towards the front of the car as the catch rises and grips on the inside of the wheel arch. One side is a doddle to fit, the other is a pig. Never worked out why.

My understanding is that repops don't have the lever, and kinda spring-fit into place instead. Can't tell the difference once they're on

You need to flatten those tabs out. With the edge rubber fitted and the wheel off slide the spat into place.
Then fold the tabs up to fit nice and snug.
You might need to play with the fron bracket to sit nice in the dogleg part of the wheel arch.
At the rear there should be a sort of spring loaded clip which holds it all tight.
That how i fitted cals repo spats.

I've got a couple of set of originals John, including some still in the box so I'll take some pics and do the photobucket thing. Should have them snapped and posted by tomorrow (Tuesday)

I'll get as much detail as possible including the rubber profile etc

BTW - well done on getting the plates (in your other thread) - the car is a real credit to you mate !

Drive it until the wheels fall off !!!

Thanks Tim. Just what I was after.

I have a set of FE/FC spats that have been on one of my cars and I didn't think they looked too bad, they will be going on my sedan when I finally give it another makeover.

Well i'm now even more confused. tried them on the wagon to see how they fit and they don't come close. I think they may not even be FE/FC ? Just nowhere near the shape of the guard even.

That's odd, coz the one's I bought are meant to suit sedan and wagon. The FE/FC one's obviusly suit the utes and vans.

Not being a smart ass but did you put them on the correct side
