What is a good subframe worth?

Post by Grimbo »

I have a dilemma, the FB's subframe is pretty sad rust wise around the sway bar area. I do however have a very good subframe on the EK, now I don't particularly want to just swap the subframe as I want to keep the FB numbers.

So what I was thinking was rather than spend $300on rust repair sections, I would canabalise the EK subframe to repair the FB one.

Or am I better off selling the EK subframe and then spending the proceeds on rust repair sections?

Cheers
Sam

Yeah, you're probably right. Save a heap of time and hassle and it'll still be a FB/EK

If its only rusty around the sway bar area why not just fix it ????

Would probably be less work than changing them over .........
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Its not that hard to make those sections. Probably only 20$ worth of metall.

Blacky I'll have to pull the subframe off to fix the rust in the front of the sills anyway. The rust in the subframe is not only on the lower section where the sway bar bolts but also up both sides and about 6 inches either side of the sway bar mounts.

Once I get the subframe off and have a good look I'll make a decision to swap it or repair it.

The wrecker here in Perth wants $2000 for a reconditioned painted subframe  A bloke rang me one day chasing one and he told me this is what he was quoted - I sold him a real good one for $250 and it came with a good straight fairly well rust free FB shell - he only wanted the subframe but I told him it was $300 for the subframe on its own or $250 for the lot because I couldn't be bothered pulling it off.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hey Blacky I reckon thats a bargain for $300.00 mate ......heres aint too many good ones left now......$2000.00 for a reco one aint real bad either when ya consider the work that goes into doing one up the right way .you could spend hours and hours getting it right...if you cant do it yourself the labour costs start to mount ......I spent $300.00 recently on one just sandblasting and EP priming before repairs ....add some repair charges and the initial cost ......so I reckon a good rust free suframe is worth a grand every day .......Fingers
Don’t you find it Funny that after Monday(M) and Tuesday(T), the rest of the week says WTF?

Well I'll be selling the good EK subframe and repairing the rust in the FB one. I should be able to make up the sections I need.
Thanks for the input guys.
