Radio. Reconditioned but doesnt fit :(

Post by John »

Yep, I buggered up. Got a radio rebuilt and its too deep for the EK.
So I either sell this to help fund an EK one or keep it for "just in case"
Any ideas what it's going to fit?

Option.

Have a cradle made and install it under the dash.

How much to long??

If its only about 5 to 10mm how about you make a plate out of aluminium wth a cut out so the radio can sit proud of the dashboard,if you know what I mean.

Just depends how much too long it is, are we talking in a few mm's ???

My guess would be an early Torrie, maybe LC, but also looks like the knobs might not be original to the radio.

Will fit whatever your grinder can reach

Probably closer to 20mm I'd say.
I have two other ones here that are EK but are in a bad way. I just hoped this one would of gone in easy :(
I'll see if these can be repaired.
The other one owes me $150 :( :( :( :( :(

Its not LC.

Although the facias are the same, the body for LCs is the smaller unit used through the later range.

I reckon its had a "Holden" facia attached for one reason or another,as used in LC Toranas.

It also has mismatched knobs, both front and rear.

There are several variations to the sticker, covering many brands of car,as well as just having "Astor" .

I have seen these radios in HD Holdens with the regular HD,HR facia.

Many Astor radios are generically bodied and can have facias and knobs swapped about to change their appearance.

Oh,and the needle goes behind the plastic dial face.

Autosol will clean the push buttons up beautifully.

It will also do a nice job on the plastic dial face, just be careful not to get any on the back of it where the numbers are printed.

If it is just the facia that is too long,I have this one here which has been cut down which may fit.

The chrome on it is mint, I would be happy to swap if it suits your needs.

Cheers for that.
There is no glass/plastic in the radio in front of the needle. I have a plastic fascia at home with the channels on it but its too small. The guy that repaired it sent it back like that.
Its too long as in the radio basically hits the firewall. It needs to be shorter like the other two Ive come across.

Then it has been assembled incorrectly,or is a mismatch of parts.

It should look like this.
