Aussie 4 speed/monkey shift??

Anyone had an aussie 4 speed with column shift?
Don't even know if it can be done, well anythings possible if you've got the skill or money i spose!
Be keen to hear any feedback.

Muza - I had already considered this - I didn't see an issue with fabricating/bending selector rods to run the 1/2, 3/4 shifts....
Where I ran into trouble was with reverse... because it has a separate rod...
The Aussie 4 speed gate locks out the two forward rods - but allows the reverse gear (which is at the back of the box inside the alloy extension) to get engaged.
If you could cleverly devise some way of discreetly drawing this reverse selector from under the seat etc.... you should be able to run the H pattern through your "monkey" as you call it....
Of course - you would have 1st gear where you currently have reverse with a crunch box......
The changeover between forward selectors would be when the steering column spring effected the 1/2 to 3/4 rod.....

I gave this very serious attention in 1983... but opted to use the crude and roughly designed gate which was factory supplied with the Aussie box......

Just why Borg Warner didn't go the path that &*#@, Toyota and goodness only how many other manufacturers did - is beyond me.......

As I recall, most 4 speed column changing patterns were to either push, pull or depress the lever to engage the reverse selector...... our steering column linkages do simply not afford any such possibility...

I wonder if it would be 'simple' enough to use a different column?
Would obviously need modifying, might have to look into it.
Just collecting some thoughts for my next build as I want to have a hotty grey with a 4 speed, but try to keep it looking as original as possible.
I do like the idea of reverse being 'under the seat'!!

You could have an "electric" reverse , just mount a solenoid on top of the box to shift the box into reverse and have a button under the dash to activate it .

What you are talking about can be done but defeats the original idea.
In the mid 70's I built an FJ and fitted an RT40 Corona 4 speed behind the grey motor, I then adapted the Toyota Column change to fit the FJ column and connect to the Toyota box.
Giving me 4 on the tree

Look at using a comercial gearbox that will have similar or possibly the same bellhousing layout to a sedan based one and do it this way. Using an available adaptor
Have been in a Toyota Hi Lux in Japan with 5 speed column change
