After much deliberation I had my ute fitted with new rear bearings last week at the TAFE where I work.
Fortunately for me there is an old machanic that comes in once a week to mentor students, when the machanic Lecturer mentioned my rear bearing dilema the old fella took over saying "he used to have these for breakfast"....
My info from looking into "which Bearing is which" was correct: ie; 1963-on is different to earlier bearing kits, the correct ones have a seal in the bearing as well as the "cup seal" that comes in the kit. I have saved my old bearing and when I get back to Aus (, I'm in Bali atm) I'll post a photo of it in this thread...
My ute still had the old leather seal and it was the cause of my oil leak... according to the old fella these were always replaced when seviced which indicated that the bearings were original..... not bad for 51yrs !!!
