FB Holden that won the Nationals 1992 (Best Original)
Hi guys, I used to own many, many FB's and EK's back in the 80's and early 90's and had an FB that won Best Original FB in 92 (3rd Nationals) in Tamworth. I sold the car not long after to Steve Jackson but have always wondered what happened to it, especially as the 92 Nationals was 20 years ago this June. Here's a photo of the car as it was at the Nationals, and one of it at home when I lived in Ipswich.
If anyone knows where she is nowadays, I'd love to know.
I don't own an FB any more, I moved on to a 1962 SS Impala.
Cheers, Carl Snelling

Re: FB Holden that won the Nationals 1992 (Best Original)
Thanks guys, I bought the FB from Mr Colin Robertson Lindsay who lived in Dinmore near Ipswich in Jan 1990. It was a bit run down and needed a bit of TLC to both front guards and one rear door. Mr Lindsay had run into the side of his old car shed a few times. He had bought it new in I think May 1960 and had immediately used it as a wedding car for his son who got married in June 60. It was still running it's original grey motor and had about 90K miles on the clock. I had the panel work done and resprayed the front guards and the lower half of the rear driver's side door. The rest of the car was still in it's original paint!
I had owned a few FB/EK's is the 80's and had a whole pile of Nasco accessories as well as 5 spare parts cars stashed at my parent's place in Gympie. When the FB was new it was fitted with interior door handle pull-to's and a bonnet lock, I fitted a clock, radio, venetian, side flash, vacuum wiper washer, parcel shelf, spats, hub cap H's, oil bath air cleaner, door handle scratch guards, hand brake warning etc. I think it had about 30 Nasco accessories by the time I went to the Nationals in 92. I was in the Air Force at Amberley at the time and also a member of the QLD FB/EK car club and can remember Tim Gall and his brother, and their girl friends, but my memory of everyone else is a bit sketchy.
I think I sold it in 93 and bought a HJ Monaro, then an EH, an ex-police HZ Kingswood and now I have the Chevy. All the cars I've owned were as good as the FB and I made money when I sold every one of them. The Chevy is a genuine 62 SS Impala sports coupe painted Anniversary Gold (1962 was 50 years of Chevrolet) with a 327 and powerglide. It was sold new by Bale Chevrolet in Little Rock Arkansas and was imported in 2004. Here's a few more photos of it.
There's a big difference bewteen aussie and yank cars of 1962, but even though I've got the Chevy now, I still have a soft spot for FB's and EK's.
Cheers, Carl

Re: FB Holden that won the Nationals 1992 (Best Original)
Thanks for the welcome, this is a great site. I'm on a similar one in the States for the Chevy. Here's a few more I owned. The EK ute in about 1986 and an EK Standard Sedan in 91. The ute I traded on a WB Statesman in 88 and the EK standard, I think I sold to Lee Thomas in Basin Pocket, or maybe Steve Jackson. It was 20 years ago so it's hard to remember. The EK Standard was the only EK/FB I ever knew of that didn't have a single accessory!!! It's only fault was the small ding in the lower front guard. I'll have a look through some old photo albums to see what other photos I have.

I'm sure Scotty can fix that....MeFB wrote:1962SSImpala wrote:There's a big difference bewteen aussie and yank cars of 1962, Cheers, Carl

Welcome to the forum, Carl...you by now probably hate me for what I've done to your old Green Standard sedan (& I don't blame you!)..
...but it surley had a hard life after S.J. sold it on...it needed a whole lotta love to get it back to where I have it now..and there's much more to come (Bloody Customizers!! ).
That '62 "Impailer" is on very sweet ride and looks absolutely MINT!.. as for the wheel on the "wrong?" side...I have a good mate in the Brisbane suburbs (Tony Dahl aka Brian Westlake) that has a few LHD cars..I've drive one of 'em and it's nice to pull up on the side of the road and walk out straight onto the footpath.
Scotty.

Re: FB Holden that won the Nationals 1992 (Best Original)
That side flash looks pretty freaky, but at least it's still alive!!! I've sold a few over the years that are now long gone, including a reasonable running EK that hit a roo after I sold it, and instead of fixing it the guy used it in a demo derby (didn't last long because the dizzy cap fell off after the first hit) and an unbelievable FE that I bought off Lee Thomas. I owned it for a few years, but after I sold it, it was wrecked and at Sims Metal within a year!
I didn't own that EK Standard very long and don't remember much of it's history, other than I bought it off a family in North Ipswich. It was under their house and covered in dust. It didn't take long to get running and even though the paint was chalky it cleaned up pretty good.
I scanned a photo of the 92 Nationals, you guys might recognise a few cars. My FB is 8th from the far end. I always figured that it would continue to be a fairly well-known car and be in all the Nationals at least, but you never can tell. When you next have a Nationals close to Canberra, I'll come on a cruise and hope to see it again.
Here's another car that my mate Chris Tamblyn owned (I think his brother still owns it in Kempsey). We used to travel all over QLD/NSW sniffing out wreckers and old Holden dealers looking for parts and panels. This photo was in Casino in about '88 when we went looking for the wrecker at Bentley. We found the wrecker, but most of the cars were pretty well picked over. I don't think this wrecker is there any more. We also found an FB in the Holden dealer, it was for sale and was a one-owner local car. I think he wanted 10 Grand for it at the time..... dreamin' then, probably worth it now.
