any advice or ideas on a good alarm for our type of cars. the ones ive looked at seem to be for new cars with central locking etc.

I would recommend a Viper car alarm, definitely the world leader in vehicle security. If you don't want central locking you don't have top get it fitted the alarm will still be able to get installed and protect doors boot bonnet and immobilize the engine if fitted correctly. I would probably look at the Viper 350Plus it's a good affordable option.
