The last couple of cars Ive worked on have had the roofs buckled around the inner roof cross rails. When they blast it pushes on either side of this rail and dents the roof.
...one of which is mine...

Having fun scraping off that roof deadener Wayne? :P

I've been avoiding this part of the restoration.
But thanks to Steve Jacksons thread on this I had a go today.
Didn't have a problem with removing the mouldings and didn't break any clips.
They are just to old and need to be relaced. :)

You can see the two missing clips in the pic below

One of the clips remained in the moulding.

Image

These are in the same condition on both sides

Image

Sprayed with Reluctor I'll try and remiove the screws tomorrow

Image

Passenger side all the clips undamaged but old.

There was a set of these on eBay a few weeks ago. I had a go at them, but didn't win. What do people usually use in place of these?

G'Day Wayne

I am replacing all of my screws, nuts and bolts with stainless steel items, I do not want any rust problems down the track.
Their is a company in Wetherill Park called WPS they are suppliers of stainless screws, nuts and bolts to the trade.

Make sure you put never seize or somethjing similar on them if you ever want to be able to get them off again - stainless into mild steel can be a bitch to remove
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Update 26th January (Australia Day)

Had a crack at removing the stainless mouldings of one of the doors today, drivers side rear.
Following Steve Jacksons thread again we perservered...
I have found that and not mentioned in Steve's thread that you have to remove the door lock
to get access to the screw inside the door to remove the top moulding!
As he said its a pain in the arse to remove...

So after using the Ute's bonnet as a work bench, mainly to try and see up inside the door
I worked out that as I was taking photo's why not use the camera to see up inside the door.
Sometimes I'm not too bright!..

Found the screw Steve was talking about. One word.."bastard of a thing"... :x
Oh shit that 4 words sorry!...

Trying to see with a torch...Idiot..

Hope these pics help someone else...

You can see in this pic were that screw inside the door is located

This is that screw outside that holds the top moulding on the door.
I gave up on it. job for later

Image

Image

Image

Not forgetting to push up on the moulding to get it over the W clips.

Image

Bit of muck built up over the years

Image

Back 2 w clips

Image

Front 2 W clips

Image

Clips on the ends in both pics.

That last screw beat me, I gave up and went inside..bugger :silent:

Tomorrow is another day, so they say... :D

Crikey

That last screw looks just about impossible :?

I sometimes find that if I leave jobs like that for a while I can get it done pretty quickly when I go back to it. I think having a break from it is a good thing.

Are you using any sort of spray on the screws? I've found that super release agent is unbelievable stuff. I use it at work on everything even if they are not seized!
