HR Front end, LX torrie discs commondore rack-Advice wanted!

Post by POPOK »

Hi all,

I have got my hands on a HR front end, LX discs, LX stubs, 1984 commodore rack (already shortended) and LX rims. I also have an LX drum rear diff.

if my questions have been addressed elsewhere, could you please offer some help with finding the thread(s).

SO, my questions so far are as follows:

1. What sway bar do I use? Can I readily get after market ones?

2. I don't necessarily want to lower it any further, what springs and shocks should I be looking for?

3. With the steering, what column should I get so that I can keep the EK wheel? Does it need much modification?

4. Which steering tie rod ends would be the best fit/match for the LX stubs in an EK? I want to avoid hitting guards, etc and still want a "reasonable" turning circle.

5. Who are the better manufacturers of ball joints? Who should I avoid? Where to buy?

6. As for brakes, what booster, do I keep the master and plumb it through to the booster? Proportioning valve required?

I'm sure there will be more questions...Any advice welcome!

Thanks all,

POPOK

LX stubs are not good to use as there camber/castor angles are differant and can be difficult to wheel align
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Thanks for the replies!

Bat, what, F^%d parts??? Ok will look into the wreckers, any other solutions for tie rod ends?

With the VN/VS column, do you have pics of the mounts, joints, etc?

Harry,

I've got the LX gear from a mate due to a favour. I have LX rims, the 3.08 ratio fine spline diff too, hence the front LX stubs, discs and calipers.
According to Hoppers Stoppers, these are a better upgrade than the HR discs and calipers. Advantage with LX is that the track remains *quite* similar once the rim off set is accounted for. Also, the EK stud pattern is maintained.

Do you suggest other stubs, discs and rotors? If so which ones?

Thanks again,

POPOK

**Edit**
I guess I show my lack of knowledge of things in the above post!

I read some of the old posts today regarding the torrie stubs, and how they are offset compared to the HR stubs. The stud pattern is the same for EK's and HR's, however the offset is different.

Having read this, the next question is wil the LX torrie discs/calipers bolt up to the HR stubs?

According to J's thread, they will fit on the regular king pin stubs, so to answer my question, they *should* fit on HR stub's. Is this correct?

Cheers, POPOK

torana stubbs on a hr front end ? the only bloke I've seen do that to an ek that Ive spoken too told me he gave them a little bit extra bend under a 50 ton press.
for me to bend 2 extactly the same Id need 5 or 6 stubbs. then he had custom (offset) wheels and still only had torana brakes.
I ended up with aftermarket stubbs and hq disks and caliphiers and Hq wheels.14*195*60 tyers
or use hr stubbs I believe (or have been told lots) that torana stubbs on a hr front end will suffer from bump-steer
