Wanted: 3 speed crashbox info

Post by Harv »

Ladies and Gents,

The 350 Holley guide is pretty much done - give it a fortnight for some of the guys to read through and comment, then I'll post it (need to offload some excess carbs, manifolds, adaptors and parts not long thereafter for that matter... ).

Next on the agenda is a guide for grey motor crashboxes. I'll again focus on FB/EKs, but will extend back to the humpies and forward at least as far as EJ (depending on what info I can lay my hands on I may for a bit further forward, say HR). If anyone has any info, anecdotes, manuals, Accelerator magazine or other material relating to the crashbox, I'd love a scan/photocopy please (happy to pay postage). I already have access to the following:
a) Workshop manuals for FX, FJ, FE (with FC supplement), FB, EK and EJ/EH (anyone got a HD/HR manual they would like to sell or scan?)
b) Masterparts (20 years) catalogue,
c) The Scientific Publications Workshop Manual Series No. 67 Holden covering series 1948/’53 FJ, FE, FC, FB, EK, EJ, EH, HD, HR, and Workshop Manual Series No. 86 Holden covering series HK, HT, HG.
d) Max Ellery's Transmission repair manual Holden's 63-88 (EP-TRANH)

Any info very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Harv.

G'day Harv

Have two boxes and a gearbox worth of NOS parts to use for pics if that will help you (still trying to get a set of selectors if anyone wants to part with them) Sorry but the 'boxes and parts are not for sale as they are part of "the grand plan"..........

Drop me a line if you can use them.

Cheers Dave - appreciated. I'll get the document rolling along and then give you a yell about some NOS parts "happy snaps".

Cheers,
Harv.

Hi Harv,
Sterling job you are doing....

I have botht he HD and HR factory manuals..... sorry, not for sale...

I'm quite happy to scan a few pages for you if you like - time is the issue.... don't retire - you won't have any.... but, I should be able to run a dozen or so pages off for you to help out.....

As I recall, there wasn't a lot of difference between the EH box and the latter HD/HR ones - except the selector bearing bosses on the side plates were more pronounced.... apparently to overcome premature wear.....

Let me know if I can help - we're off again shortly for another break with the van.... should be back well before Xmas....

Thanks Rosco.

One of the FE/FC guys will photostat the HD one for me - if you can scan or photocopy the HR gearbox section that would be great. I'll PM you an email address and postal address if hard copies are needed - happy to cover postage.

Good luck on the road - enjoy the trip.

Cheers,
Harv.

No problems, Harv - I can only scan in pic mode - will make the pages around 2k, if that suits - It would probably be nearly as quick for me to hand type - my scanner/computer/hard drive are on permanent industrial go slow.... send you a pm with a bit more...

Harv, just took a peek through both manuals - they are "almost" identical.... there is a bit of a re-format of the page layouts.
The only differences I have found so far - the HR gear lever neutral position is level as opposed to at a raised angle on HD.
The main bearing and clutch bearing are bracketed as sealed bearing units.
The speedo driven gear for a 3:55 diff equiped vehicle has been changed from 22 teeth to 23 teeth...
Still looking - will try and set up the scanner later (when it starts to rain)....lot of work to do around the house for now......
