Weird Shortned EK on Ebay
Re: Weird Shortned EK on Ebay
I assume that if you want a two-door, the "Stumpy" route would be easier than either filling the rear door, or filling some of the rear door + lengthening the front door (even though you would need to cut and shut both roof and floorpan to make a Stumpy).
Mick - didn't you do a two door at one stage? Appreciate your views on how much less/more work a Stumpy would be compared to the two other options.

In Australia
It was all he could afford, as Yank cars were expensive
He wanted to show people what he could build, and for some time was a legend with the most radical car around
So many people today that were not around when certain things were done, cast negative comments on all aspects based on what is done now.

I cast negative comments if I don't like the look of things, not just go along and say it's cool because it's old.
I do like allot of old customs, just not this one, Trev.

see i wouldn't say that from where i sit there's all sorts of things i'de do before i shelled out that kinda coin on an EK, acctually i never would even if i won a 20 million lotto or something, or maybe i would just to modify itMeFB wrote:and have just spent a small fortune on another that I'll probably never drive on public roads (just sneak out and lick it occasionally when the wife isn't watching)EKfanPaul2 wrote:Why?
But I have to admit...the guy who chopped-up that poor defenseless little car was a fair bit crazier than me
yes harv i've made a convertable out of a wagon it was 2 doored but fairly easy as the roof was removed and i didn't lengthen the doors, did a chopped 2 door sedan it was a little more complicated as we lenghtened the doors but it was pillarless, then made a delivery from a wagon once again reasonably easy as didn't lengthen the doors and probly the hardest was the last one 2 door sedan lenghtened doors standard roof with B pillar
as for doing this spose it would be fairly easy but still not a walk in the park
along the lines of what paul said there's ALL SORTS of stuff that's been done over the years with the aim of not having a car the same as the next guy's
just saw trev's post i don't think this is a good looking car but also don't overly hate it either and i remember seeing it in car mags back when it was done so if it were cheap enough and not to destroyed by the people that keep buying it and pulling it apart and reselling it i'de buy it just to have
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

I have been collecting magazines and photos of customs, among other things for 40 plus years.
And in the sceme of things this car is not an ugly custom. Trust me on that one
Alex, Custom FC could possibly vouch for that as he collects like i do.
The comment I posted was not totally on this car, But all things done on cars in the 50's to 70's. On other posts on the forum people have bagged old repairs as rough, but for the time they were done in, cost and need some of these rough repairs have lasted decades.
In the last year, there have been several new cars appear on the show scene and get lots of magazine coverage. 90% of the magazine readers are all salavating over the magazine pages, and calling them the best we have to offer. They are bright and have all the trick pieces.
But, in the group of people I mix with, we look past all the smoke and mirrors. And see things others dont. And personally some of these cars will never be fully functional and some I would never want to see on the road as they would be a danger to all around them.
So how will these cars be viewed and commented on in say 40 years from now??
But thousands out there would dissagree with me on this
Mick has seen his fare share of these types of cars, and all of his cars have been drivers and attention grabbers. Like them or not
Stumpy is not the best looking car, but has been fully functional. The short wheelbase would give it some interesting handling habbits possibly like a T Bucket.
In the end its all personal preference
It has been a shame over the last few years to see this car go from owner to owner and each time more of it is lost forever.

Cheers Mick.
That level of skill is way outside my league (handy with spanners but not to be trusted with the gasaxe). Beautiful, ugly or otherwise, I've got a lot of respect for anyone who can make that substantial a change and get it back on the road.
Cheers,
Harv.

Re: Weird Shortned EK on Ebay
G'day everyone,
I have several FB / EKs and prefer if they are stock standard - BUT I really like this little coupe! The fact that it was converted when it was only around 5 years old makes it an acception I recon. I have a van, wagon, and ute (still looking for a suitable sedan - oops I like the FCs). Now this little critter has come along: it's a shape that didn't exist in my Holden world until now! The question is how much work is required. Luckily it still has original front end -YEY! OK I might be a touch mad, but i'm happy:)
Cheers, Tan.

Re: Weird Shortned EK on Ebay
There's only one thing about the car that just looks too far out of proportion to me, and that's that the rear wheels are set too far forward for the length of the car. If the wheels and wheel arches were pushed rearwards, maybe 8-10", then I think it would look really cool and I'd buy / restore it in a flash. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere near the skills required to do that level of modification.

As I have said before when this car has popped its head up on here,
Its a piece of Aussie Custom Culture that deserves to be restored to its former glory.
