radiator problems

Post by dave a »

finally finished my car but its overheating after a short run. its a 186 auto, running a trans cooler. i had a eh radiator laying around and through it in. its only a single core by the look of it.does anyone do recoring these days (in sydney). the other radiator i've got is a 6 cylinder hg one. i might try to fit this in. also noticed it runs rough under heavy braking.does this mean the brake booster has a damaged diaphram or is this the norm.

I'd back it in the diaphragm is gone. As for the radiator mines a HG but a three core. Works a treat. I had it done just over a year ago. Most competent radiator places should be able to do a recore without any drama's.

Hi Dave,
agree with above posts.
There were two different sized EH radiators.... one for 149 - and a much wider one for 179.
The HK/T/G one will "just" fit across the radiator baffle - between the sub-frame. You will need to do a bit of cutting down each side of the baffle.
You might like to consider fitting some additional strips to strengthen the baffle where you drill radiator mount bolt holes.
Depending on where your red motor engine mounts are - you might also find that the fan bolts and fan run very close to the radiator core....if you intend to run an engine driven fan, be careful which one you fit.....

What ever you do - don't use an XW/XY radiator ..... I had seven years of bad luck with a "specialist modified" one of those...... fitted a re-conditioned stock HT six radiator - not one issue since....

Booster - hmmm...... sounds like a leak somewhere - post check valve....... most probably diaprhagm, but also could be valve chest....

frats,
Rosco
