Need Help, need measurments please.......

Post by Dakam »

Hi all, just putting on some stockies and forgot that I had Hr diff underneath. I have test fitted the stockie rim and to me it sits a fair way under the guard ( looks tubbed). NOW, it may be that I'm just used to having the guard filled. I have measured the outside of the rim to the inside lip of the wheelarch and have got a 70mm gap.
Is anyone able to tell me with standard rims how much the gap is between the rim and the inner lip.
See from the pics and tell me if it looks too far under the guard, I know it will be a bit more than standard, but dont want it looking ridiculous.

Hey shaky, as long as the rear has the same track as the front it should look ok, It may look different with tyres on it  .

I have a HR rear end with 14x5's on the sedan and I have 40mm on the same measurement, so a stock rim would have a bigger gap.

I don't mind the totally stock cars dropped on their guts, in-fact I recon it's a massive improvement :D .

Well its the rims you gave me....lol
The tyres are going to be 185/80/13, which has the same rolloing diameter as originals, but only leaves me about 20mm between the inside of the wheel arch and the tyre wall.

i'm guessing which i thought when you bought the car that you may have a LC/LJ torana diff housing, as the dragways were a pretty big dish wheel you had tucked under the rear guards

G'day Dakam,

Standard FB rims are 2" (50mm) measuring horizontally from the wheel rim (the steel bit that gets gutter rash first) to the inner guard lip (the bit that wide tyres rub on first).

Thanks Harv, thats exactly where I was measuring from. I have a 70mm gap instead of a 50mm gap. Thats not too bad, thought it may have been bigger, I 'm happy with that. Now just gotta wait for the tyre joint to get my shit in so I can get some rubber on those suckers. :D

Dave, I've got that same size tyre on my 13's, and they do bulge out from the rim a bit, so I doubt it will look as bad as you think

Cool, thanks Cal. The only other real issue I have is wether its going to get too close to the inner wheel well. How much do they bulge Cal ???? I have 185s on the Dragways now, and going by those measurments on a different offset, I will have between 10 - 15mm to the inner wheel well. I dont thinks is gonna be an issue.

They do bulge a fai bit, coz of the high sidewall, plus on the Khumo's I have the sidewalls do seem weaker than usual.

Hard to measure, but it does feel like 25 to 30mm clearance on the inner wheel well
