August 28th Beenleigh historical village
Found just off exit 35 of the M1. The Beenleigh Historical Village tells the story of how Beenleigh & the surrounding district were formed. Beenleigh was settled in by Europeans in 1868. The name Beenleigh was brought here from Beenleigh, in Devon, England.
The first settlers were farmers, sugar cane workers & timber-cutters.
The Beenleigh Historical Village has over 20 buildings on site with historical significance. They include the original church, school, boot-makers shop, railway station, post office, jail, council chambers, and several old cottages.
Our heritage homes are museums within themselves, displaying old furniture and equipment as if they were frozen in time. Browse through photos and memorabilia, or revisit antique artifacts used in daily life. Meet at 10.00 am. Drive in and around to the grass area in front of the café. We have organized a guided tour at a cost of $6, this will last approximately an hour, then followed by a Bbq lunch Byo food and drinks. Food is also available from the Café.
