Woman Driver.....

Post by EK-selent »

I need help!!!

EK has a brand new battery however is needing to be jumped to start, and still struggles to start making a ticking noise. Can anyone shed some light on possible issues, resolutions and suggestions on any Holden specialist mechanics South of the River.

THANKS!

Make sure the connections to the battery are clean, and that all the cables are connected right.

It's probably something basic that any mechanic can probably solve...........you don't need to search for a Holden specialist

Follow the lead from the battery down to the starter motor and make sure the lead is tight there and also clean so its got a good connection.
These things will start realy easy with a small roll up so if you have the opportunity park on a hill where you can roll away.
Put it in 2nd with the clutch in ignition on ,start rolling .
let the clutch out and push it back in - this will spin the engine just like turning the key and hopefully start it .
Beware that if it dosent work that you havent put yourself in harms way / middle of an intersection :)

Id imagine that your alternator isnt charging the battery maybe - hard to diagnose over the net.

Doesnt want to turn over could be a number of things:
a) not enough current getting through, needing higher zzzzt from the jumper vehicle - battery leads corroded or loose, as Cal suggested, or starter solenoid contacts gummy or dirty,
c) engine partially seized. Does it turn over by hand? Does it have oil in it?
d) muffler part full of rust, mud or potatos  . Does it start any better with with the exhaust disconnected?

Start with the simple things first.

Cheers,
