have done it that way so many times, works for me.Blacky wrote:when I did mine we braced the body , used those screw type axle stands and got it dead square before cutting anything.
I cut and shut 2 doors , braced them too - got the frames fully welded then made new skins to suit.

Re: Sneak peak of my EK Sled.
as i've told you i did mine the same way you have done yors except i had subframe all wheels and suspension, no bracing and mine's fine the only thing we did was stuck a jack under the B pillar (just touching no load at all) which did not change during the process, i haven't said anything cause i wasn't sure what you were talking about re: the gaps but i think i understand now it's it's prolly like has been said there's a bigger gap at the bottom to allow for scuff plates
when we did the chopped 2 door pillarless we never braced that either, we did the 2 door part we put some basic chassis rails under it and when we took the roof off for the chop we just took the wheels off and sat the sills on the ground, gotta luv back yard fabrication

Mick
I have seen your cars, the way and conditions you have buit under. You are lucky to have a mate that is an experience panel beater
When I was a lot younger, we did several open air constructions. But we had some idea of what was needed and involved.
Unfortunatly over the years i have been asked to fix, or try and fix others attempts at performing chops two door and convertible conversions that have gone bad big time.
And in my own and customers builds i prefer to set the bodies up level, support and brace befor cutting. Everyone has their own ways that work for them.
I have not posted before on this conversion because Nick seems to have it under controll till something goes wrong!
He seems to have some highly qualified mates advising him. So I will just go back to reading and let them sort it out.

Re: Sneak peak of my EK Sled.
Yeti,
The Model A is waiting its turn, although i've gotten my frame boxed and a middle X member fabricated already.
I'm going to probably cut the skin off this door frame and see if it flexes and fits and if so i will use that, and make a new skin at a later date.. otherwise i'll make a new door.
