Thrill Seeker - Loves to live Dangerously!

Post by EKfanPaul »

Saw this good ole beater, parked in the streets of inner city Melbourne, right alongside some Housing commission flats one night last week. Dented grill, rust over eyebrows, rust in doors, ripped seats, badges missing & broken (The classic 1/2 of a 'Special' badge on the front fender where some crook has tried to take it and it has broken off!

2 things interested me.

1 - you don't see dented rusty old Ek beaters being driven as daily drivers much these days! You used to!

2 - Parking the car outside the flats with no steering lock on - well, its living dangerously!

Cheers

Unless it's someone wanting parts of it, people aren't interested in stealing these sorts of cars anymore.

Reminds me of many old Holdens that were being driven in this state in the mid-late 80's.

This one actually has a parcel shelf in it!
You'd find maybe one or two rare bits on beaters , occasionally!

I was a kid in the 80s and I remember seeing half clapped out GTR, GTR XU1 and SLR/5000 Toranas being driven around the NSW Southern Highlands by the battlers -sometimes the odd beaten up Monaro too and XA-B-C Falcon hardtops...

Man! I drive my beater every day and rarely lock the doors!
Don't have a lot of rust though!

Never used to lock mine around home, no-one would have known how to start mine anyway. That and i could run faster than the car anyway

Jimmy and I saw a real old dunga getting around when we went to pick up a grey short engine and crapped out gearbox. The guy uses it as his daily and in fact doesn't own anything else and has had this car for YEARS. Rough as guts but still had the original plates and all. His only complaint was it gets 'a bit cold' in winter
Pretty sure we got some pics so if he can do it maybe we'll download eh Jimmy
