Have looked at wide whitewalls (2"wide) for my ute but they are still quite $$$$$$, then I found these, John Cain is Dealing in them. I remember he used to sell his "Saturday night special"350 chev motors more than thirty years ago and I've even got a Cain twin carb manifold for a grey hanging on the wall so he's been around awhile. Anyway has anyone used these Diamondback whitewalls or currently running them?? just thought I'd do some research on how good they are before asking for prices etc (not much good getting prices if they're no good)

P.S. I've run flappers before and wouldn't run them again.

Possibly only the thickness of the Brand name. Which is raised anyway. Then there adding more rubber in the way of the whitewall, which is now making it thicker. So in Theory it should be stronger.
As far as the sidewalls go there are some clips on youtube of guys using a flapper wheel on a grinder and buffing off the blackwalls on white letter tyres to make homemade whitewalls, that looked a bit scary at first but in one clip they actually cut a sidewall in half and its surprising how thick they are.
Anyway I was hoping someone here has themselves used the Diamondback whitewall tyres or have mates in hotrods using them.

But having said that you can make your own custom whitewall.
I did a bit of research on whitewalls a little while ago and for the size I wanted it worked out cheaper to get flappers (and replace them whenever needed).
I found a place overseas that sells and freights them for half the price of what they are here.
And you can get varying sizes and colours.
I know you're not interested in them though Mick and the bottom line is real whitewalls are better. No question.
$182 isn't too bad. I noticed a post about diamondbacks on ozrodders where a bloke said they fall apart (as the whitewall is vulcanized on), although he didn't elaborate and i can't find any other reviews of them. Can anyone shed any light?
They seem very cheap so i'm a bit iffy about them. Also I wonder if it's possible to grind these back slightly to make the whitewall wider?
I got a price on BFG's from antique tyre supplies and they wanted $300 each for 185/80/13's I know they ain't cheap but geez!

Jimmy, I can't open that thread but If they are like the 14 inch tyres that I had on my HK I wouldn't be grinding the side wall, mine had what seemed to be a soft or thin side wall.

I bought the 185/80/R13 BFG Silvertown Whitewalls and can't believe how much they improved the ride and handling of the car. Well worth the dough.

You might be a little disappointed with the 70 profile tyres though - you'll be revving the box off. They also don't fill the wheel-arch as well as the 80 profile tyres which make the car look like it's stance is a little too high.

They look great and if it was my car I'd soon have it down two or three inches to fill those guards
The BFG's look awesome, the guy i spoke to at antique tyre supplies suggested 185/80's to keep rolling diameter up anyway, and i think 70's would make the wheels look too small.
Thanks for the feedback both trev and alan on the different tyres, i'm going to need new ones soon so i suppose i'd just go for the cheaper thin whites off ebay until i can afford the flash ones
