The way I tuned (if you can call it that) my twins was to screw in the mixtures and instead of 1.5 turns out for a single carb I only gave them 1 turn, same with the idle screws, got them even then slowly screwed them in or out the same amount each time till it ran well enough.
Probably not the rite way but they haven't given me any trouble in the last 6 months :D .

Sorry mate i thought that link went straight to the linkage image not just the homepage
here's a pic of it
Image
it's not the same as a progressive linkage i think this one runs the carbs together as one.
Not sure which is the better setup????

Thanks Dan. I have to say that one looks cool. Even though i can't see how it works, where do those plates bolt up?
Has anyone used this setup?

You don't need all of that setup, with the manifold you have it has the two holes for the shaft to run through.
As for a progressive setup, you would not use one on twin carbs, they should be used on triples where you run the middle carb as a primary and the progressive links make the two outside cabs kick in at about half throttle for overtaking or going up hills.

i use a unisync to balance my carbs, like DR mentioned. heres a link to one on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holden-Twin-Carb ... 19c18e5131

when it comes to tuning them i screw the mixture screws out most of the way, then slowly screw them back in till the engine starts to miss fire, then back off a little. just do one at a time. just remember the mixture screw only controls the idle circuit, so it needs to be adjusted at idle, so first get the balance/idle speed right then tune the mixture screw 8)

heres a link to a linkage kit,

Do yourself a favor mate ...go see the guys at Southern Carbys in Dandenong ,these guys are experts on early carbs ..you will probably need to get a new butterfly shaft on one of your carbs to enable you to screw the w clamps on ..I could send you a photo of one they did for me just recently if you want ...I very happy with the job they did mate and quite reasonable in price too ...Bill S

Just wondering how you are going with the twins, here is a picture of my setup, I used three small tension springs to distribute the load on the carb shafts evenly. As I said in my earlier post I didn't go with the original linkages designed for this manifold as I thought they over complicated things.

UTEK wrote:If you look at the first pic of the carbies you can sort of see the lump bits i'm talking about. There's one directly under each carb on the underside of the manifold. Why they are there has got me stumped but it looks like i'll be able to grind a fair bit off and still maintain the same thickness as the rest of the manifold.
G'day,
Many many moons ago I bought the same manifold for an FJ I owned at the time.
The bloke at the speed shop said if it was fitted to a road car, the "lumps" were supposed to be filed off a bit so they would make good contact with the extractors. This sort of replaced the exhaust hotbox and helped warm up the motor more quickly.
If you were fitting them to a more "competition" type engine, you would make a bit of clearance to run the manifold cooler.
At the time I took this as gospel, but I have more recently read many conflicting theories about hotboxes and multi carbs.
I hope this helps,
Old Gaz.
