How to spend half a day with simple flames..

Post by Sputzwagon »

G'day all...
Spent my Saturday painting some simple flames on a Speedway 'Hot Rod' these are the older Supermodified cars re-made for a new category. Jamie (the owner) just wanted a few flames to break up the bonnet from being just one single colour, as the rest will be covered in numbers & sponsor's names..
I'll shoot through some more photo's after I get it back on the car tomorrow..these have yet to be cleared. :)
Almost two hours spent taping & masking the bloody thing...
Image
..put down white then bunt yellow & a bit of red..then finished it off with a small amount of gold flake..for xtra shine.
Image
another 3/4's of an hour just to take all the tape back off!!

Great work Scotty!! Looks 8)

I remember laying out scallops on my brothers XP, took 3 hours of masking 10 mins to spray (white over a blue) half hour to unmask and clean up. Then took him a day to stripe around the edges as he was learning how to use a bueglar... Was fun and well worth it though.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Well, I've stuck it back on the car today (just for a looksee) it's going to get cleared with the rest of the body this arvo. :)
The owner's happy with it. :o
This is what the whole thing looks like (I've still got to go back & sign write it later).

He's a real 'one eyed' &*#@ supporter ..but I don't hold that against him.
The car looks real tuff without the little wing on top...too bad it needs it.

Yeah Robbyrr, neither did I until recently. These are going to run under the N.S.W/A.C.T Racing Board rules so I'm not sure if the big tracks will run them? Sort of like nostalgia drag racing I guess. It'll be good to see some of the old cars bought back out of their sheds and back on the track where they belong. 8) :D

Back in the eighties I used to pit crew for a grand National at Liverpool speedway and later I crewed for a modified and sprint car team at Parramatta. I remember one of thes old Hot rods running against the Modifieds. The bloody thing flew and really gave the more modern cars a run for their money.
Nice work Scotty.

You better chuck some paint on that bit of road sign before it gets seen by the wrong people
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

This thing seems to go like a shower of sh#t as well, Dave..Jamie offered me a drive in it, but I declined,,,my golden rule is "if you can't afford to replace it..don't use it!"
