Getting back to EK's again in 2007, I bought my EK from Sydney and was driving it back to Melbourne.

I stopped in Wangaratta overnight and some jerk tried to steal the Special badge, breaking it in the process, leaving 1/2 a badge on the guard.
To my annoyance, when I got home, I found out rare spares don't make EK or FB holden special badges. They make them for models before and after the FB/EK but not our model.

Fortunately, I kept a box of bits up in my roof and I had a spare special badge that I rechromed!

curious though - considering how rare they are, I bought a mint one at the auction at the nats for $60! - That's about what they cost to chrome plate!
I would have thought it would have gone for a fortune!

I was going to pay off the mortgage with that badge.
Amazing how really good parts can go for not much and you get mediocre crap on ebay and people go nuts.
A classic example is I found in the shed an old chromed oil cap. The chrome was fair but had chipped of in a few places and it had a small ding on the top.
My wife saw it and convinced me to shine it up and put it in ebay. (what did I have to loose) Unbelieveably it went for $125.00 and I had semi thought about throwing it out!

Interested is know if anyone has seen EK guard badges "Special" being sold lately, and what the price ranges they are going for.
From searching it appears that they are not found that often.... :( :(
