Thats the Nasco EX294485-1 Smokecreater, it filtered fumes from the exhaust and blew it back underneath.
A rare option fitted only to FJ and other early british cars up until now, never seen one on a later moder as they created a bit too much smoke \
Seriously though, an unusual feature and they fitted it in around the generator. It will be interesting to find out what it is meant to do.

I'll share a secret with you but don't tell anyone else on the forum. It is a rare photo of Peter Brock's pre-production prototype "Energy Polarizer" he made as a high school metalwork project - shit that got him into a heap of trouble. Ahead of it's time back in '59 though. Pity it never took off
