Never had an issue but quite often you see a discussion about these and people say put a smear of grease in them when you install a gearbox - from what I have been told that is incorrect you should only put oil on them as the material is porous and the grease will it and it will run dry

That might be one for the trainspotters - would imagine its April 6, 1955 but if its a J style block that would make no sense, and I wouldn't imagine grey motors were still being produced in 1965 ?????

side of the block between the dizzy and the fuel pump i think ? Should be a letter followed by numbers - like D123 which would be April 12, 1963

Has the J block style dipstick so you might be on a winner- what's the casting date on the block ?

Here is a fun fact for you: I am currently in London, staying with our daughter. The silly poofters are still using Imperial linear measurements, inches, feet, yards, miles. Yet they use litres for fuel.
