After many delays (engine rebuild in another car), the culprit turned out to be the rear shock absorbers.
This was somewhat surprising at the noise is evident when driving over the smoothest concrete surfaces.
Rebleeding the shockers made a difference initially but after a few days the rattle came ...

Re: Ute Rear end rattle
Hey guys,
Thanks for the gags and advice.
I had a bad rattle in the front that, although I knew the radio blanking plate to be loose, didn't make the rattle connection.
I think the last thing to try is to run it without the rear shocks.
I have removed them and fully re-bled them and they seemed ...

Ute Rear end rattle
Hi All,
My EK Ute has a low speed rattle from the rear end that has got me beat.
It happens all the time at low speed independent of the road surface.
At first I thought it was the tailgate links but wrapping them in foam quickly eliminated them.
It's not rear wheel bearings (new), UJs (new ...

Re: rear axle bearing/seals/leaks.
Wow, a lot of correspondence on this and, apparently, much confusion.
From my recent experience even the parts suppliers don't agree with what the correct parts are.
My sketch below shows what the wheel bearing housing of "my" EK Ute looks like (I emphasise "my" as mine is original though I don't ...

Hi UTEK,
Beauii60 here (Tony). I'm interested in your post given my recent rear wheel bearing dramas however I can't see the pictures you have posted.
I'm a fairly new user so is there a trick to seeing them?
Once I can see them I'll throw in my two bob's worth as well.
Cheers,
Tony

Re: grey ute near the bolte
Hi Mark,
I joined the forum recently and just saw your post.
As the owner of a grey ute with white flappers who occasionally uses the Bolte Bridge it might be me.
Was it this car?
Cheers,
Tony

Re: rear wheel bearings
Hey Guys,
My pleasure. I had a bit of trouble convincing the guy at Repco that his catalogue was wrong - until I showed him the parts that came out of my ute.
Graeme, if the kit did not come with an axle seal, make sure you get the correct one (I got mine from Dinkum autos - talk to Chris 03 9532 ...

Re: rear wheel bearings
Dear All,
After unsuccessfully trying to install the Repco bearings, I bought a set of NTN bearings which had the "proper" 3 mm o-ring.
Surprise, surprise they went in in a flash. I must add that as an ex-Ford rear axle engineer I know a little bit about these things.
One other thing about the ...

Re: rear wheel bearings
Hi Graeme,
I've just fitted a 3.36 diff to my '62 Ute and bought the Repco kit as per the one you purchased as this was the one listed in Repco's catalogue.
Firstly, this kit is not for FB/EK as it features the EJ-onwards axle seal (same diameter as wheel bearing outer race) that sits between the ...
