Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Thanks Rob,
Appreciate your input into this. It's an issue I inherited and something I should have left "as is" for now and i have no doubt thrown it into disarray, unaware that the parts installed are not matching to the original engineers report, which has made it all the more difficult. The ...

Bolting on upper ball joint UNDER control arm

On HR front end. Has anyone ever heard of a trick of bolting the upper ball joints on from under the upper control arm (wishbone) instead of dropping in from the top?

Or heard of extended ball joints?

There's some very vague info around on other forums of doing this, apparently HQ race cars ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Mate 8” rims on the front, not surprising they rub. Probably be great on the track.

Sorry my bad, typing faster than my brain - fronts are 17 x 7, rear 18 x 8 and the fronts weren't rubbing.. That's not the issue.

I think I have solved the problem, need to ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Hey eKay it looks cool though mate.

What are the rims and tyres you are running front and back if you don't mind telling :whistlinggg:

Regards
Neil

Rims are billet specialties: Fronts are 17 x 8 on 205/45, Rears are 18 x 8 on 235/40.

They are nice wheels, but I live well out of town and ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Jay,

Have a look at this photo its off a HK, you can see the wishbone difference.

If you were going to grind the wishbone out I would suggest bracing it for peace of mind.

Regards Greg

Cheers Greg,

I don't think grinding out part of the wishbone is an ideal solution. I think I will just ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

All your pics are showing as correct to me ???

Oh OK, that's weird then.. They are all over the shop on my posted screen... Cheers, oh AND also.. You said you previously ground some of your control arm off on a build. My only concern is creating a weak spot, do you think this is a real concern??

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Sorry about the rotation - it's upright on my computer..

Here are more pics.

This is with the lowered springs in - thank god my trailer wheels fit and happen to be the size I want to go to 195/65 R15 on 6 inch rims. It's 245mm from centre hub to top of guard (60mm lower than previous spring ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

eKay
I use a site called TinyPic to post photos others use tapa talk I think it is called don't use photobucket.

The cast caliper does seem to be higher than the the girlock one.
These are a couple of fairly old photos from my FC build that show the Girlock caliper, not sure if I had the drop ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

OK, I can't post pics. It seems I need to have some public hosting thingy. I thought I could do the old drop and drag but those days seem gone.
I tried sending a PM to you Neil including a pic, but that was the same.

But on GMH - torana forum is a picture that is same. See post 10 on this http ...

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Hi eKay;
Mate sorry but I am not getting what is really going on here, I run almost the exact same setup on my FC Sedan and have no problems, CRS drop spindles (60mm drop), rear mounted steering rack, I run HZ/WB aluminium Girlock calipers (they were the best for the time google specs and it says ...

Errol62 wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2018 4:37 pm Couple of additional points.

The caliper will of course go up relative to top balljoint with drop spindles.

Rear mounted rack will require you to have the calipers on the front I believe.

Cheers

That's what my brain was telling me looking at it all... Thanks

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

I've never seen them hit the wishbone maybe the shock tower which you can take a little off of the lip
I forgot to mention, the lip of the shock tower has been trimmed previously. Cheers

Re: Lowering front end, caliper now hitting top wishbone control arm

Looking through Hoppers Stops in Melbourne and they have an article about whats stopping your Holden, i'm sure heaps have seen this as it's been there for a while, but I haven't read it for years.

A quote from that page: 4/ HQ stubs (being same as HK/T/G) fit HR front ends, use HR steering arms ...
