Your FB / EKs story. (or others)

Post by samprinci »

Hi all after a bit of a discussion on another post, I thought it would be nice to start a topic on the stories behind your cars... They dont have to necessarily be FB or EK..

Because the stories behind the car are just as important as the cars them selfs.

I'll start:

My FB ute

Spoke to previous WA owner today. For those of u that dont know, my ute came from WA. David from WA bought it off his uncle, the uncle bought it brand new. Thats the uncles name in the Service book. (Mr H C Hart)

Any way I thought it would be nice for the records if I could have a photo of Mr H C Hart & the ute. David said he's sure the ant would have one as the uncle has passed away. Hes going to as her for one. Fingers cross??

He told me it was a very sad experience see his ute beeing driven away on the tilt tray.

He asked that when he next comes to sdyney, if he could come visit the ute, Told him it would be a great pleasure to share that with him...

----

My EJ
bought it off a fella. Was his fathers /mothers for 20 yr. all paper work to match too. The father worked at the local Holden dealership & the time & it was traded in in 1983. He brought it off the dealership. The father then passed away &, yep thats right the mother then used it to go to shops & church. Once she passed away the son took ownership. After a few year it was in need of some repair & was fading away so the son made the difficult decision to sell it to hopefully someone who would look after the old girl. The son interview me to make sure I wasnt going to butcher it. Asked me a whole bunch of question. When we did the deal he bought it round, we had photos with Ej , him & I. Once he drove off I was left with my new car, in the glove box was a note from him, saying " This car was once a part of their family, now its a part of mine!!!!! please look after her.

Here is my cars story's
The green sedan i brought from the son of the original
owner who brought the car new the son had it in a shed
on block's for 12 years after the old man passed away
he then for some reason took it out of the shed
and parked it under a apple tree  2 yrs later i found it
rusting away with dents from the apple's falling off the tree on it
it was seagul grey with white roof original paint . i paid $300
dollars for it the guy said it doesnt run any more we poped the bonnet
and changed the spark plug leads around correctly fresh fuel and fired
up second crank drove it onto the trailer and took it home
i restored it in marine blue and white color scheme
and then later on in the green and white
now had the ek for 20yrs and it was my first car i brought when i was 17

pics of the sedan after 6 months work on rust and a pic of the finished
product then a pic of it after a running gear and color change green

the FB wagon
the wagon i brought of ebay for $1250 as a unfinished project
the previous owner brought the wagon from MT Druit for
$ 4000 drove it around for 6 months then stripped it and
bogged up the rust painted it themself badly drove it around
for a while till the rust got to bad then took it to a panel shop
to have it stripped rust done and painted 2 yrs later and 7k
dollars to the panel shop the car had no rust work done
and had nothing done but soda blasted and oxide primed
they also had brought another ek for a parts car for $2000
and basicly only parts useable were the sub frame and front
gaurds they then got the shits with the panel shop and went
and picked up the wagon and took it home where it sat for
another year before the father said to the son im taking it
to the tip  im sick of the thing
son said well put it on ebay and thats when i brought it
and it now has finaly a good home and has been rebuilt
right :D
This is how it looked when i picked it up

SunnyTim wrote:I bought my FJ in 1988 in partnership with my two brothers for $800. We were at a family BBQ and my great uncle mentioned that he knew of the car for sale by the son of the original owner. The car had 61K miles on the clock and had been sitting since 1968. After looking at the car, I found that my great Uncle (same dude) had actually sold the car brand new to the guys father (who was a friend of his) in 1955 at whilst working at Eagers in Toowoomba.
The car was given a sympathetic exterior resto in 1989 and 1990 and went back on the road the same year. When I pulled the kick panels off the interior I found the words "OK Stan 21/6/55" written in wax crayon and thought that's cool 8)
In 1996 I was putting fuel in the car at a service station in Norman Park Brisbane (by myself so noone can verify). An old guy came up to me to comment on the car which I was generally pretty uninterested in....He went on to tell me that I had a May or June 1955 FJ. When I asked him how he knew he told me that he worked on the final quality control on the line at GMH in the Valley (Brisbane's assembelly plant) and when I said "registered July 55.." he then went on to quote engine number ranges and other particular details. I eventually went on to ask him his name........wait for it.....Stan. I know Stan is a common name, but what's the chances
I'd like to think that not only have I met the person who sold the car new, but also the man who was there when it was put together. He may have in fact been the first person to ever drive it :D
WoW!!! thanks Tim, that is totally awesome! thanks for sharing that
