Might sound ridiculous, but has anyone fitted air con to a grey motor.
I know you would lose some power, but would it work?
Just a passing thought.

Yep, I know Ben has one in his. It seemed to run well when I was in it and I'm pretty sure he's quite happy with it. He's in Perth as well so it's probably worth a PM.

I hope to have an a/c system on our FB for the 2011 nationals, I have an air conditioning Business called Madd Air and the plan is to be able to do custom air systems before the end of the year. Any one interested can send me a PM

Hi guys,my Ek ute is fitted with air on the old grey but needs the new compressor put on. Hope to have it up and running for Sawtell. Can't tell you much about it as I bought it with A/C and the guy said it worked fine and he supplied the new compressor to go on it. Has the under dash unit and looks fine. Look us up at the Nationals and get some ideas. Cheers Graham

Out with the shovel.
Does anyone know of kits or just under dash units that fit in the fb ek and with or with out vents . The engine side of things isn't a problem.

G'day Folks,
The Mad Air installation is very interesting and looks tidy in the standard FB. I have pasted some pics from Facebook. What has been done is to install a 12 volt electric compressor in the boot, which is made by Rencool (Qld Co) rather than have the compressor engine driven. The refrigerant discharge line and suction line would be slightly longer than standard installation but not a big issue and may well be routed under the floor?

What would be an issue here is your elect system as the compressor specs show the current draw at 36-55A. Mad Air has upgraded the alternator to a much larger unit given the original grey motor generator is good for around 240 watts from memory. Of course you woul need some decent size cables to handle that current and minimise voltage drop too.

Regards
Stephen

That's pretty cool if you'll excuse the pun. I wonder how much noise they make. Thinking that it could be mounted under the load floor in commercials, thereby shortening power and gas runs. Any idea on pricing Stephen?

When I enquired about price I was quoted $4,400 for the same kit in his fb standard including the alternator conversion (needs a 120 amp alternator minimum) and installation

 Thats a monster alternator just to run AC on a grey.

The VL runs all the electronic sorcery and electric fruit, including AC, and only pulls a 70A alternator. The VE only runs 100A.

Cheers,
Harv
