grey motor trimatic what diff ratio would you use

i had a 3:55 ratio in there with the red motor and tri was good off the line but a bit revvy when cruising long distances

i have a 2:78 in there now that was great when we went to bendigo
but now that im running a grey motor reccon it would be a bit hard off the line

i have another 3:55 to put back in there but was thinking 3:36 might be a bit better

any thoughts

3.36 is perfect for all round driving, as you have said the 3.55 is great off the line but revs high, 3.08 is a little sluggish.

With the Norman huffer on the grey, I reckon it would have the torque to spin a 3.36 around town quite well.

When I was a broke postgrad, I put a 3.36 in my stock manual grey EK. Great out on the flat sections of highway, but not the hills, and sluggish off the mark around town. But it stopped the car from revving its ring out at 50mph, so I thought it was a good trade off.

I'm putting a warm grey in my car and have already installed a 3.55... may be a bit revvy on the highway, but it won't die in the arse on the hills and should be quick off the mark around town...

Yep, stock grey would pull up with 3.36 as it's a good average between the extremes of 3.89 grey ratio and the other end with a 2.78.

3.08 would be OK I guess with a grey on the highway, but down a bit on pickup around town but there again you are going to run a Norman so it will be up somewhat in power so a 3.08 would still do alright with a Norman I reckon.

Even with a modified engine I think 2.78 would be a bit to tall for a grey.

I think?? from memory the LC/LJ Torana's running a 138 RED and trimatic used the 3.36 as standard fitment.LC/LJ's were only slightly lighter than an FB/EK believe it or not so are of a similar weight to compare.Although 138 RED's are a bit more HP output than a 138 grey.

My vote is 3.36.

I'm planning on running a slippery 3.36 in the ute - seems like the best of both worlds

I've got a red 161-trimatic-3:36 combo-14"wheels. Perfect alrounder.
