hi there,

im getting quotes to get the head on my Holden 138 Grey motor at the moment, and wanted to know what is usually involved?

and what should be done in a head reconditioning?

also what kind of $ is reasonable?

Joel,
We have had 2 heads done, both at the same place. the first head was virtually just a reco, with a mild shave and v8 springs (motor was fitted with very big cam) this cost $500. the second head had Yella Terra size valves from a red motor head, 350 chev springs, a ton of porting and was shaved all the way down to the thumb prints, It cost $600.

Where abouts are you located?

just a normal head service is to surface grind the head and to reseat the valves. should be around $300.

It will cost more for stainless steel valve seats so that you can run unleaded fuel.

If you go to bigger valves and porting then expect to pay like torquefc.
