Fast idle cam threatening to fall off!

Hi guys,
Just put the carby pack on the engine and the fast idle cam (using the terminology from the FB holden workshop manual, figure 6B-13, page 6-43) keeps threatening to fall off the metal cylinder it sits on. Apparently there's meant to be a split pin that keeps it on but there is no hole for it to go through on my carby - and I don't remember pulling one off at any rate. Was just thinking of sticking a hose clamp on the protruding end of the knob. Is there anything I'm missing here and does anyone have any tricks?
Cheers,
James
