Spark plug Extenders?

why do I have them ,spark plug into (extender) thing, then into head

Heres a pic,I can put the plug in without these as it doesnt hit ,however I dont know why it had them,maybe to drop the compression?

I've seen them before, years ago, to enable the fitment of long thread plugs in a short thread head.It kept the plug away from hitting the piston top on engine rotation and therefore stopping damage to the engine.
Not real sure why they have been fitted to your engine

as those plugs are short thread plugs

.
There was a bloke selling a similar plug extender ( in restored cars mag I think ) that had the piston end of the extender blocked off and a number of small holes drilled in that end.It was claimed to stop spark plugs oiling up in a high mileage engine.

put new plugs in today minus the bullshit and it ran fine
