I need help with the grey in my FB, Ive changed the coil, pionts, condenser and had the carby done. She runs great around town but when I drive her to work I get about 20k's from home, all highway driving, and she starts to miss and lose power. :?: Come home redo everything and she runs great again, drive her to work and almost to the dot, 20k's from home she stars to miss and lose power, this time I had to be towed home. Im at my wits end as its coming into good weather and I cant get out in the old girl ,but I cant work this one out. Any help would be great, Cheers Pat :(

Gday Pat
What is it that you redo?
If its more than one thing,
try doing just one 'redo' and see if that makes a differance.
If not, try one other thing, and test again.
We need to narrow down what the problem is.

Cheers
Jeff

Thanks all, well I have tried reseting points and timing, then had float level set so all good. Carby is spot on so Im back to coil. Have changed the coil with 3 different ones and all seem to run fine. Im starting to think that the fuel pump may be on its way out. Its a red motor pump so I'll pull it of the car and have a look. Any more ideas would really help. cheers Pat :)

Hmmmm......I'll watch this for a little while Pat - if you don't mind....
I'm still waiting on another car with a similar fault - before committing to you.....

The 20 km's thing has me intrigued.... is it by distance or location?
ie - does this occur at a particular location?

Rosco

G'day Rosco, the miss seems to be by location(travel the same way to work every day). Using this trip as a bench mark as all the good rod runs and cruises are at leest 50 k's or more from home. fc visitor I will look at the fuel pump hopefully before the weekend. Thanks for the advice guys this site is great for help. Keep it up guys, cheers Pat :)

Ok - then is it at a particularly steep or acute angled part of your trip - which does not occur elsewhere.... I'm merely suggesting here - and this may not be the case.... that your fuel pump may be struggling to supply fuel from the tank due to the demand on it to pump it up ...... it's probably not the case.... but it is one chance..... also - although you have checked the fuel level and needle/seat - it could be that the carby is starving on a particular angle......

need more info.....

Rosco

Maybe drain the tank and put fresh fuel in. Also have you checked the plugs?

thanks DR, I put the tank in myself and have put new fuel in eveytime I drive her( fuel gauge is buggered). Plugs were new, done less than 1000 miles. I going to replace dizzy cap and rotor button next, pull plugs and check them and then Ill see what happens, cheers Pat :)
