Adam, we (the Vic's on here) would have to be the least involved in cruizes out of all the states (as a group), Devilrod posts up the "Johns rod n customs" friday night cruize every month and that is the only regular post in the Vic section  .
I tried to get some interest in the Healsville a couple of months ago and got crickets  .
If you go along to the general meeting of the club (as Bill has posted, this Tues coming) they should be having an organized run each month, find out what it is (or even go and put up some ideas and help organize a cruize that you would enjoy  ) and try and get some interest on here to get a few forum members to dust off their cars and go along :D , who knows they might even join the club  .
Nice to here from someone else, thanks Adam, Trev 8) .

So Trev, does that mean that ANYONE from this forum can come along to the Vic Club events (club member or not)? or that no one from the Vic Club can post the monthly club runs on this forum? or is this an attempt to recruit memberships for the club?

I am sure there are people out there that have no burning desire to join or rejoin the club or come along to monthly meetings whether they are listed here or not. I am sure just as many (if not more) have similar lack of desire to attend FB EK ONLY events.

I know of several people that appreciate information on upcoming events (for all types of cars (like DevilRod's Johns night posts)) that they may not hear about until afterwords (sometimes via this forum via photo's of events last weekend etc) if there were information listed for them to fimnd out about upcoming events and make a choice to go to? and if other FB EK people from here wish to attend then there may be the chance to catch up at those events socialise and build a network other than the format of club membership? or is this discouraged on here?

I understand the FBEK club funds this site so a degree of recruitment is expected, but as mentioned the Vic section is the least utilised section of the site and yet is the Host state?

or have i misread entirely what Kingaz is wanting to do via this thread?

EKWagon, yes that does mean anyone from this forum can come to Vic club events member or not, unfortunately the club didn't have a run co-ordinator last year so there were no runs organized, except for AHD and the FB/EK Nationals. By coming to a few runs with the club it is up to the individual if they want to join or not! But why keep going if you don't like the club? and if you do like it why not join? (Was not a recruitment drive)

Any model car event is fine, like the Healsville run was all makes and models and was not organized by the FB/EK club. Why would the forum discourage that?

Yes the Vic club fund this site but that doesn't mean the members have any desire to post on here, they probably do their socializing at club level not staring at a computer screen, even I (who visits this site every day) can appreciate how good it is to go on club runs and just talk crap and have a laugh.

I think Adam just wants to go to car events and meet some of the other forum members, thats what I took it for.

quiet

Trev ive been to a few meetings and was a memer of the club but many of the cruises all were on the other side of town and were very much focused on family day outings not so much a cruise/car event

perhaps the club has a different take an a cruise than what i had imagined

Just an example was the University Hill Winter car show on Plenty road in Bundoora a few weeks back went last minute as a friend quickly called me an amazing event high quality cars all in an underground car park with a band with only 2 EKs represented this would have been an ideal opportunity for a few EK owners in the northern suburbs to have acruise up there

I just think the FB EK owners in victoria need to be a bit more proactive in listing some events we hear so others dont miss out and truely reflect how good these cars are, plus by attending these events it may just generate a bit more interest in the club and spark some need ideas etc

As i said i will be listing some events and would love others to do so too, i hate getting on this site on sunday nights and realising ive missed a good show as i look at someones pictures

cheers

Well Adam to answer your comments, we try to hold runs on all sides of the city but unfortunately many people don't show up even though the event goes right past their door. As a past run coordinator it's difficult to come up with runs that please every one. Lots of comments about how it should be done, but how many pitch in with positive action?

The club is primarily family focused and does cruises as well as getting together to do family stuff. Shep swap, Nationals, Hanging Rock, Vintage Caravans, Bowling night, Christmas breakup with Santa etc. Don't say anything, but we are even known to combine runs with different make/model clubs!
You Adam of all people should now know that it is important to involve family with various runs and not get the misses off side, you know what happens then!

We didn't have a coordinator last year but it didn't stop things happening, I'm sure with a coordinator this year some more runs will be posted here, and no, you don't have to be a member and unlike some other clubs, you don't have to join the club after going to a certain number of runs.
If you want to join the club then join, you are quite welcome, if you don't want to join, then that's fine too.

The Committee is involved in the day to day running of the club and can't be expected to know of every car show going on around the place, this is what we have a forum for, to exchange ideas and let everyone know whats going on. Trev, Devilrod and others post various car show on here.
Just remember all you anti club people, who finances this forum for everyone and doesn't ask you to pay to be a "forum member"? nor expects it.

As far as other car makes are concerned, yeah sure i like FB's and EK's but nothing bores me more than looking at endless lines of them. It's good to look and get some ideas but i like to look at other makes as well.

And no EK Wagon, we don't discourage people from posting monthly runs here, in fact I'm sure our new coordinator is planning to do just that so that anyone can join in. I think you have misread things a bit, Kingas is not a club member and is not on a membership drive.

This is not meant to have a dig at anyone, just answer a few questions so hopefully i have done that.

It's not easy trying to keep things running smoothly so if you don't like the weather, join in and do something about it. The Committee of the Victorian Club are all unpaid volunteers and have lives outside the club so if you think we are doing something wrong, by all means feel free to throw your two bob's worth in. That's what this forum is here for. Time to get off the soap box

Seems nothing really changes. I used to be a very active member of Bayside Streeters all through most of the 90's and found this to be the exact same thing that kept happening. We tried all sorts of things and nothing we found worked. Its a toughie.

But I'll try and update the whats on, having issues with the list at the moment, but I'll sort it and its good to see though that the attitude to who can attend a club run is so open. With a bit of luck I'll make it to a few this time. :D

Hey, Why don't you guys go to a pub some where local with a nice big car park, Shoot the breeze and have a coldie. Doesn't matter what car you drive, Its about getting together and building friendships with people with the same passion. Its not hard. Lonewolfs can do it by just turning up at a venue or carpark and just hanging out! Doesn't need to be organized, just a few blokes and chicks gettin together and after a while others will want ta join in!
My 2 cents
Cheers Theo Z..........................

I think Theo's pretty well nailed it with some of the things he's said.

Having an FB/EK is great but the FB/EK scene isn't just about the cars, there is the social side as well with the common interest being the best Holden ever made.

Yep, get together and go for a drive somewhere and enjoy life.Doesn't really matter what you drive there in I reckon.

Thats what I love about the Nationals.I've only been to two of them but the welcome that was extended and the fun and friends made at the two we have been to cannot really be described in words.

We felt like part of a big FB/EK family :D :D :D .
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hey Guys,

I'm happy to post a copy of the August issue of Twin Fin Newsletter, however I can't see a way to attach it for forum users.

This is usually chock full of info re: runs / cruises / swaps etc for all makes/models.

Hi guys & gals,
Well yep I am a Vic member (long distant one  ). Been reading this thread and just thought I would share something with you all..............

We used to live to cruise, that was how life was when we were young..... when I started building the Black EK a few mates and I made a pact that we would revisit the ol' cruisin' days when she was on the road (my mates already had their cars.... locked in sheds!). We sent out an email and basically said that there was a "Nostalgia Cruise Night" happening on the first friday of every month for pre '80's cars or atleast Chrome bumpers!, no club, just be at Fishermans wharf by 8.30pm to join the cruise or at 7-ish if you wanted to have a feed first.
Darwin is not a big place and the first "Nostalgia Cruise Night" was 2 months ago, we rocked up at 7-ish to find 5 cars there already, we grabbed fish & chips and angle parked the cars on the wharf. By the time the cruise started we had over 20 classic cars and Rods.... we ran through town and stopped at a few places on the way, met a heap of great people and had a real hoot!! We had all the cars cruising down the main drag 2 abreast..... great sight, thumbs up & whistles from by standers... awesome stuff, fantastic atmosphere. Last week we had the 2nd "Nostalgia Cruise Night" with over 30 cars, everyone had a great night, we left the cruise to take the Black EK home at about 12.30am (we live 45 klm from Town) ...... parked the beast back in the shed and talked about the run for another hour or more before falling asleep... great fun!! Brings back some great memories.... highly recommended.

cruising

Post by Kingaz »

Thats exactly what its about Garry

when i was younger (hmm sounds funny im only 26 lol) we used to live for Friday night or a hot sunday afternoon everyone would clean the cars and then just head out for a cruise no destination just where the wrong turns would take us lol

As i said at the start of this post i just wanted to create a bit more communication between both club members and forum members

Great story Garry and thanks Devil Rod for your continuous posts on events!!!

Sounds like you are having a ball Gary!

We used to do similar but it was every Friday and Saturday night and Sunday arvo/evening from Sept. through to May  Minimum was around 3 cars. Never a club as such, but when other club members turned up we'd get around 20! Sure was fun.
